VMware unveiled the newest versions of its VMware Fusion and VMware Workstation desktop hypervisor solutions. "Developers can now slipstream Kubernetes applications from test/dev into production," said Lee Caswell, vice president, marketing, Cloud Platform Business Unit, VMware.

Uniquely available both on-premises and as SaaS, VMware vRealize provides customers with the agility and efficiency of cloud infrastructure at scale, leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, and DevOps principles such as Infrastructure as Code and GitOps to provision, orchestrate, optimize and govern hybrid and multi-cloud environments. VMware vRealize Log Insight 8.2 and vRealize Log Insight Cloud will also introduce enhanced Kubernetes support, deeper integration with VMware Cloud on AWS, and overall usability enhancements.

Intel and VMware are collaborating on an integrated software platform for virtualized Radio Access Networks to accelerate the rollout of both existing LTE and future 5G networks. In a significant milestone in the support of DX, Gigamon announces that the GigaVUE Cloud Suite for VMware has obtained VMware Ready certification. VMware informed customers on Tuesday that it addressed a total of 10 vulnerabilities affecting its ESXi, Workstation and Fusion products, including critical and high-severity flaws that can be exploited for code execution on the hypervisor. An attacker who has local access to a virtual machine with 3D graphics enabled can exploit the weakness for arbitrary code execution on the hypervisor from the VM. VMware has pointed out that 3D graphics are enabled by default on Workstation and Fusion, but not on ESXi.

Those running VMWare guest machines on Mac will want to update their software to get a security fix for VMware Tools. Earlier this month, Microsoft dropped its usual boatload of Patch Tuesday updates, sans a set for Office for Mac.

VMware this week informed customers that it has patched a high-severity information disclosure vulnerability affecting its Workstation, Fusion and vSphere virtualization products. The flaw, tracked as CVE-2020-3960, was reported to VMware by Cfir Cohen, a researcher from Google's cloud security team.

VMware on Thursday announced that it's acquiring network security company Lastline for its research team and threat detection technology. The firm also noted that its team includes 15 PhDs. While VMware has praised Lastline employees, TechCrunch has learned that the virtualization giant actually plans on laying off roughly 50 people from Lastline following the acquisition - this represents 40% of the company's staff.
