Microsoft has rolled out fixes for its Windows operating system and other software components to remediate major security shortcomings as part of Patch Tuesday updates for June 2023. It's worth noting that Microsoft also closed out 26 other flaws in Edge - all of them rooted in Chromium itself - since the release of May Patch Tuesday updates.

For June 2023 Patch Tuesday, Microsoft has delivered 70 new patches but, for once, none of the fixed vulnerabilities are currently exploited by attackers nor were publicly known before today! Microsoft has previously fixed CVE-2023-3079, a type confusion vulnerability in Chromium's V8 JavaScript engine, which was spotted being exploited by attackers to target Chrome users.

Fortinet on Monday disclosed that a newly patched critical flaw impacting FortiOS and FortiProxy may have been "Exploited in a limited number of cases" in attacks targeting government, manufacturing, and critical infrastructure sectors. The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2023-27997, concerns a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in FortiOS and FortiProxy SSL-VPN that could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or commands via specifically crafted requests.

Fortinet has released patches to address a critical security flaw in its FortiGate firewalls that could be abused by a threat actor to achieve remote code execution.The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2023-27997, is "Reachable pre-authentication, on every SSL VPN appliance," Lexfo Security researcher Charles Fol, who discovered and reported the flaw, said in a tweet over the weekend.

Fortinet has released new Fortigate firmware updates that fix an undisclosed, critical pre-authentication remote code execution vulnerability in SSL VPN devices. While not mentioned in the release notes, security professionals and admins have hinted that the updates quietly fixed a critical SSL-VPN RCE vulnerability that would be disclosed on Tuesday, June 13th, 2023.

Progress Software, the company behind the MOVEit Transfer application, has released patches to address brand new SQL injection vulnerabilities affecting the file transfer solution that could enable the theft of sensitive information. "Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities have been identified in the MOVEit Transfer web application that could allow an unauthenticated attacker to gain unauthorized access to the MOVEit Transfer database," the company said in an advisory released on June 9, 2023.

Progress Software warned customers today of newly found critical SQL injection vulnerabilities in its MOVEit Transfer managed file transfer solution that can let attackers steal information from customers' databases. "An attacker could submit a crafted payload to a MOVEit Transfer application endpoint which could result in modification and disclosure of MOVEit database content," Progress says in an advisory published today.

VMware has released security updates to fix a trio of flaws in Aria Operations for Networks that could result in information disclosure and remote code execution. The most critical of the three vulnerabilities is a command injection vulnerability tracked as CVE-2023-20887 that could allow a malicious actor with network access to achieve remote code execution.

VMware issued multiple security patches today to address critical and high-severity vulnerabilities in VMware Aria Operations for Networks, allowing attackers to gain remote execution or access sensitive information. Previously known as vRealize Network Insight, this network visibility and analytics tool helps admins optimize network performance or manage and scale various VMware and Kubernetes deployments.
