Project Zero, Google's 0day bug-hunting team, revealed a hacking campaign coordinated by "a highly sophisticated actor" and targeting Windows and Android users with zero-day and n-day exploits. The Project Zero team, in collaboration with the Google Threat Analysis Group, discovered a watering hole attack using two exploit servers in early 2020, each of them using separate exploit chains to compromise potential targets.
One of these bugs is publicly known, according to Microsoft, while another, a remote-code execution hole in the Windows Defender security system, is actively being exploited. CVE-2021-1647 is a Microsoft Defender remote code execution vulnerability.
For the first patch Tuesday of 2021, Microsoft released security updates addressing a total of 83 flaws spanning as many as 11 products and services, including an actively exploited zero-day vulnerability. The most severe of the issues is a remote code execution flaw in Microsoft Defender that could allow attackers to infect targeted systems with arbitrary code.
Like every Windows Update, you can open the Settings app and click on the Windows Update option to install the patches. Devices will only be impacted if they have already installed any Latest cumulative update released September 16, 2020 or later and then proceed to update to a later version of Windows 10 from media or an installation source which does not have an LCU released October 13, 2020 or later integrated.

Microsoft has addressed a known issue causing Windows 10 20H2 devices to force restart due to the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service system process crashing. The known issue fixed on Thursday affects both client and server Windows devices where local built-in accounts such as Guest or Administrator have been renamed.
