The Austrian police have arrested 20 people across the country linked to an illegal IPTV network that, between 2016 and 2023, decrypted copyright-protected broadcasts and redistributed them to thousands of customers. The piracy ring operated on a hierarchy of suppliers, who decrypted and supplied TV signals, and resellers, who bought access to the signal for up to $50/year and resold it to end customers for up to $200/year.
A new Android malware campaign has been observed pushing the Anatsa banking trojan to target banking customers in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Austria, and Switzerland since the start of March 2023. "The actors behind Anatsa aim to steal credentials used to authorize customers in mobile banking applications and perform Device-Takeover Fraud to initiate fraudulent transactions," ThreatFabric said in an analysis published Monday.
Excessive and indiscriminate blocking is underway in Austria, with internet service providers complying to a court order to block pirate sites causing significant collateral damage. The legal case was launched by the copyright organization "LSG - Wahrnehmung von Leistungsschutzrechten GesmbH", which convinced an Austrian court to block 14 websites for copyright law violations.
In a new reconnaissance campaign, the Russian state-sponsored hacking group Turla was observed targeting the Austrian Economic Chamber, a NATO platform, and the Baltic Defense College. This discovery comes from cybersecurity firm Sekoia, which built upon previous findings of Google's TAG, which has been following Russian hackers closely this year.
An Austrian online privacy NGO said on Monday it was lodging complaints against Apple in two countries over the use of a code on its phones that allows tracking of user behavior. The NOYB group said it was filing complaints with data protection authorities in Germany and Spain over Apple's use of a so-called IDFA which NOYB says are used on phones "Without user's knowledge or consent".
