Western Digital announced its second-generation UFS 3.1 storage solution for 5G smartphones. The new Western Digital iNAND MC EU551 delivers the high-performance storage consumers need to be able to use their phones for emerging applications like ultra-high-resolution cameras, AR/VR, gaming and 8K video.
Ericsson projects that 5G mobile subscriptions will exceed 580 million by the end of 2021, driven by an estimated one million new 5G mobile subscriptions every day. About 3.5 billion 5G subscriptions and 60 percent 5G population coverage are forecast by the end of 2026.
Leveraging their close cooperation on 5G NR implementation in their wireless test solutions, the T&M specialists Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI Solutions have successfully accomplished high-speed data throughput end-to-end test of 5G NR eMBB. By achieving 7.5 Gbps, the two companies herald the new age of high data throughput, showing that it is possible to validate very high data rate applications over a 5G network without performance compromises. The setup is based on the R&S CMX500 wideband radio communication tester by Rohde & Schwarz and the TM500 network tester for user equipment emulation by VIAVI. In the demo, the instruments simulate a standalone 5G cellular network with 8x downlink carrier aggregation in NR dual connectivity using 1xCC in FR1 and 7xCC in FR2 with a modulation scheme of 256QAM on all carriers.
SEMPRE provides military-grade 5G and high-performance edge computing infrastructure for telecom operators, first responders, government and enterprise customers. SEMPRE accelerates the transition towards decentralized digital infrastructure by leveraging distributed edge computing optimized for artificial intelligence - making its customers' networks stronger and reducing data transport, while providing them with new revenue opportunities.
VIAVI Solutions unveiled TMLite, a streamlined version of its flagship TM500 Network Tester in use with virtually every wireless base station manufacturer around the globe. By delivering features, software environment and user experience consistent with TM500 on a commercial off-the-shelf server, this new solution enables vendors to increase engineering productivity and rapidly identify software errors by deploying focused functional test tools earlier in the development cycle.
EdgeQ introduces 5G chipset-as-a-service model, offering customers a future proof platform that can scale 5G and AI features as a function of subscription payments. Enterprise network, telco, and cloud providers can use EdgeQ to virtualize network resources, allowing elastic scaling of 5G services on demand.
Syniverse and AlefEdge announced a collaboration to enable global enterprises and their developers to create their own 5G Edge networks and launch 5G Edge applications and services in minutes. The combination of Syniverse's Global SIM and private LTE wireless service capabilities along with Alef's EdgeNet platform and The 5G Edge API are critical for global enterprises to accelerate and launch their own customized digital transformation strategies.
VMware and Vapor IO announced they are building a Multi-Cloud Services Grid that integrates the VMware Telco Cloud Platform with Vapor IO's Kinetic Grid platform, allowing developers and service operators to hypercompose grid services on-demand. The collaboration aims to greatly simplify and lower the costs of deploying distributed 5G systems and real-time applications by stitching together multiple cloud and edge environments into a unifying framework that can serve up resources for use, on-demand, across shared infrastructure.
This foundry technology is expected to provide a 'one chip solution,' specifically for 5G communications with support for multi-channel and multi-antenna chip designs. Samsung's 8nm RF platform extension is expected to expand the company's leadership in the 5G semiconductor market from sub-6GHz to mmWave applications.
Nokia announced it has launched its NetGuard XDR Security Operations platform and MDR services to provide communication service providers with stronger protection for their 5G networks, as well as new, revenue-enhancing security offerings. NetGuard XDR provides CSPs with stronger network defenses that rapidly prevent and stop threats before they materialize.
