Security defense strategy can be extremely complex, with security teams grappling with tens of thousands of information points and evolving attacker techniques, said Derek Manky, Chief of Security Insights & Global Threat Alliances at Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs. FortiGuard Labs has created threat playbooks to help companies deal with this complexity, by exposing attack techniques utilized by attackers.
"As a result of COVID-19 and associated global trends, demand for malicious and illicit goods, services and data have reached new peak highs across dark web marketplaces," said researchers in a Friday analysis. Upon a deep-dive investigation into the underground marketplace, researchers found that the pricing for stolen payment cards has soared in 2020; jumping from $14.64 in 2019 to $20.16 in 2020.
Dell has patched two critical security vulnerabilities in its Dell Wyse Thin Client Devices, which are small form-factor computers optimized for connecting to a remote desktop. The bugs allow arbitrary code execution and the ability to access files and credentials, researchers said.
Dell, which pitches its Wyse ThinOS as "The most secure thin client operating system," plans to publish an advisory on Monday for two severe security vulnerabilities. The vulnerabilities, which affect all Dell Wyse Thin Clients running ThinOS versions 8.6 or earlier, allow more or less anyone to remotely run malicious code and to access arbitrary files on vulnerable devices.
On Monday a hacker dumped sensitive data stolen earlier this year from the Ledger cryptocurrency wallet's website. Researchers at security firm Cyble discovered files from the Ledger leak published Monday on a hacker forum, according to a report in BleepingComputer.
Trucking and freight logistics company Forward Air has suffered a ransomware attack by a new ransomware gang that has impacted the company's business operations. Forward Air is a leading trucking and air freight logistics company based out of Tennessee, USA. The company generated $1.4 billion in revenue for 2019 and employs over 4,300 people.
The issue was discovered in October by Saugat Pokharel, a researcher based in Nepal, and it was patched within hours by Facebook. Pokharel identified the vulnerability while analyzing the Facebook Business Suite interface that the social media giant introduced in September.
Google has blamed a bug in its global authentication system for last week's outage that affected Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Meet and multiple other Google services. The 47-minute outage last Monday, which severely affected operations at workplaces and schools globally, was caused by a bug in an automated quota management system that powers the Google User ID Service.
