2023-03-15 23:00

Multiple criminals, including at least potentially one nation-state group, broke into a US federal government agency's Microsoft Internet Information Services web server by exploiting a critical three-year-old Telerik bug to achieve remote code execution. "Analysts determined that multiple cyber threat actors, including an APT actor, were able to exploit a.NET deserialization vulnerability in Progress Telerik user interface for ASP.NET AJAX, located in the agency's Microsoft Internet Information Services web server," the joint advisory said.

2023-03-14 12:02

A new Golang-based malware dubbed GoBruteforcer has been found targeting web servers running phpMyAdmin, MySQL, FTP, and Postgres to corral the devices into a botnet. The malware is mainly designed to single out Unix-like platforms running x86, x64 and ARM architectures, with GoBruteforcer attempting to obtain access via a brute-force attack using a list of credentials hard-coded into the binary.

Protecting collocated servers from DDoS attacks using GRE tunnels
2023-03-09 15:10

After your incoming traffic has been scanned, all safe traffic is forwarded to your network or servers for processing through the GRE tunnel. GRE tunnels can transport or forward multicast traffic, which is essential for actions like routing protocol advertisement and for video conferencing applications, while a VPN can only transport unicast traffic.

Threat actors are targeting Internet-exposed Fortinet appliances with exploits targeting CVE-2022-39952, an unauthenticated file path manipulation vulnerability in the FortiNAC webserver that can be abused for remote command execution. These attacks come one day after Horizon3 security researchers released proof-of-concept exploit code for the critical-severity flaw that will add a cron job to initiate a reverse shell on compromised systems as the root user.

Emergency VMware ESXi update fixes Windows Server 2022 VM boot issues
2023-02-21 19:05

VMware has released a vSphere ESXi update that addresses a known issue causing some Windows Server 2022 virtual machines to no longer boot after installing this month's KB5022842 update. Microsoft first acknowledged the issue on Thursday when the company said it only impacts VMs with Secure Boot enabled and running on vSphere ESXi 6.7 U2/U3 or vSphere ESXi 7.0.x. Although Redmond says that only VMware ESXi VMs are affected, some Windows admin reports hint at other hypervisor platforms being impacted by similar boot problems after deploying this month's updates.
