Microsoft is adding a new 'Kids Mode' to the Microsoft Edge browser that provides a safe environment for children to browse the web and consume family-friendly content. To help with this, Microsoft has created a new Microsoft Edge browser mode called 'Kids Mode' that can be enabled as needed to create a safe, child-friendly environment.

Chromium-based browsers such as Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome will soon support the Intel CET security feature to prevent a wide range of vulnerabilities. Intel's Control-flow Enforcement Technology is a hardware security feature initially introduced in 2016 and added to Intel's 11th generation CPUs in 2020.

Microsoft has started replacing the legacy version of the Edge browser with the new Chromium-based Edge in Windows 10 Dev builds. This change is rolling out to all customers installing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21313, offered through the Dev Channel and available after joining the Windows 10 Insider Program.

Microsoft has announced today that Microsoft Edge Legacy will be permanently removed and replaced with the new Microsoft Edge after installing April's Windows 10 Patch Tuesday security update. "To replace this out of support application, we are announcing that the new Microsoft Edge will be available as part of the Windows 10 cumulative monthly security update-otherwise referred to as the Update Tuesday release-on April 13, 2021," the Microsoft Edge Team said.

If you use Google Chrome or a Chromium-based browser such as Microsoft Edge, update it immediately and/or check it for updates over the coming days: there is a zero-day bug being "Actively exploited" in the older version of Chrome that will also affect other vendors' browsers. Details are intentionally scant until enough of the wider world has installed the update, but the flaw exists in how Chrome handles heap overflows in V8, Chromium's Javascript engine.
