A Chinese state-backed hacking crew named Taidoor is deploying a custom remote access trojan against Western organisations, according to US authorities. Taidoor is said by the Americans to be sponsored by the Chinese government, with their aim being "To maintain a presence on victim networks and to further network exploitation".
The Council of the European Union has imposed its first-ever sanctions against persons or entities involved in various cyber-attacks targeting European citizens, and its member states. Out of the six individuals sanctioned by the EU include two Chinese citizens and four Russian nationals.
The Vatican and the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong have been the targets of alleged Chinese state-backed hackers ahead of talks on renewal of a landmark 2018 deal that helped thaw diplomatic relations between the Vatican and China, according to a monitoring group. Beijing accused the United States of "Slander" on Wednesday after two Chinese nationals were indicted for seeking to steal coronavirus vaccine research and hacking hundreds of companies. The United States hailed Britain's decision Tuesday to order the phased removal of China's Huawei telecoms giant from its 5G network, following months of pressure from Washington. China urged France Monday to guarantee a "Fair and just" environment for its companies after Paris decided to restrict licenses for telecom operators using 5G technology from Huawei. The United States and Australia have banned Huawei from their 5G networks and the Financial Times reported Monday that Britain could decide this month to phase out the company's equipment from its system.
