I think this is the largest data breach of all time: 220 million people. EDITED TO ADD: I seem to be conflating two stories, one current and one from last year.
Brazilian airplane maker Embraer on Monday disclosed a cyberattack that, according to some reports, involved ransomware. The Brazilian cybercriminals behind four banking Trojans collectively dubbed "Tetrade" have decided to expand their business and started targeting victims internationally, Kaspersky's security researchers reveal. The four banking Trojan families - Guildma, Javali, Melcoz and Grandoreiro - have been active for years, but started emerging in attacks in North America, Europe, and Latin America only last year.
Researchers at cybersecurity company Check Point said on Thursday that they have found the real identity of VandaTheGod, a Brazilian hacker involved in both hacktivist operations and financially-motivated cybercrimes. Check Point told SecurityWeek that it informed law enforcement about its findings in October 2019, but the hacker continued to be active up until May 2020.
In a report shared with The Hacker News, researchers from Check Point said they were able to map VandaTheGod's activity over the years, and eventually zero down the attacker's real identity to a Brazilian individual from the city of Uberlândia. "Many of the messages left on the defaced websites implied that the attacks were motivated by anti-government sentiment, and were carried out to combat social injustices that the hacker believed were a direct result of government corruption," the researchers said.

Brazilian prosecutors on Tuesday accused U.S. journalist Glenn Greenwald of involvement in hacking the phones of officials involved in a corruption investigation, but said court rulings protecting free speech prevent them from bringing charges. Greenwald's The Intercept Brasil published excerpts from conversations involving Justice Minister Sérgio Moro, saying they showed the then-judge was improperly coordinating with prosecutors at the time he was a judge overseeing a vast corruption investigation.
