Apple's latest update blast is out, including an extensive range of security patches for all devices that Apple offcially supports. There are fixes for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS and watchOS, along with patches for all three supported flavours of macOS, and even a special update to the firmware in Apple's super-cool external Studio Display monitor.
Apple has released security updates for - pardon the pop-culture reference - everyhing everywhere all at once, and has fixed the WebKit vulnerability exploited in the wild for users of older iPhones and iPads. The presently most important fix among those delivered is the one for CVE-2023-23529, a type confusion issue in the WebKit browser engine, which can be triggered by maliciously crafted web content and ultimately allow code execution.

Hackers continue to target zero-day vulnerabilities in malicious campaigns, with researchers reporting that 55 zero-days were actively exploited in 2022, most targeting Microsoft, Google, and Apple products. According to Mandiant, most of last year's zero-day flaws were exploited by Chinese state-sponsored actors and most concerned operating systems, web browsers, and network management products.
Apple has revised the security advisories it released last month to include three new vulnerabilities impacting iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The first flaw is a race condition in the Crash Reporter component that could enable a malicious actor to read arbitrary files as root. "An app may be able to execute arbitrary code out of its sandbox or with certain elevated privileges," Apple said, adding it patched the issues with "Improved memory handling."

Apple this week released bug-splatting updates to its operating systems and Safari browser, to fix a zero-day vulnerability in its WebKit browser engine that's reported to have been actively exploited. Apple's advisory says the company "Is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited." It credits an anonymous researcher for reporting the bug and its iOS advisory also acknowledges "The Citizen Lab at The University of Toronto's Munk School for their assistance."
Apple has just released updates for all supported Macs, and for any mobile devices running the very latest versions of their respective operating systems. Apparently, tvOS recently received a product-specific functionality fix that already used up the version number 16.3.1 for Apple TVs. As we've seen before, mobile devices still using iOS 15 and iOS 12 get nothing, but whether that's because they're immune to this bug or simply that Apple hasn't got round to patching them yet.
