ENISA identified the cybersecurity challenges SMEs face today and issued recommendations. The ENISA report provides advice for SMEs to successfully cope with cybersecurity challenges, particularly those resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Small and medium-sized enterprises seem to be strongly positioned in the data protection sector, according to a recent survey of 600 German, French and British executives conducted by Usercentrics and Siinda, in cooperation with the research institute Innofact. The survey results place the British firms at the top of the ranking, with 76.5% of executives agreeing that their company has up-to-date data protections, followed by Germany with 68% and France with 61%. Data protection officers as a privacy necessity.
Due to the high costs associated with cybersecurity solutions and lack of technical expertise, most SMEs are not properly prepared to prevent attacks. SMEs lose over $2.2 million on average a year due to cybersecurity breaches, and 60% of SMEs go out of business within 6 months of falling victim to cybercrime.
The need to maintain an increasing array of cybersecurity tools to protect organizations from an expanding set of cyber threats is leading to runaway costs, staff inefficiencies, and suboptimal threat response. On average, SMEs manage more than a dozen different security tools, making it very difficult for security teams to manage and orchestrate.
