Samsung announced that it has begun mass producing its most advanced line of data center SSDs, the PM9A3 E1.S. The new PM9A3 fully complies with the Open Compute Project NVMe Cloud SSD Specification to satisfy the rigorous demands of enterprise workloads. "Providing an optimal mix of performance, power, reliability and firmware, we believe our new PM9A3 will help advance today's data center storage technologies and expand the market for OCP-compliant SSDs.".

Samsung announced that it has developed the industry's first High Bandwidth Memory integrated with artificial intelligence processing power - the HBM-PIM. The new processing-in-memory architecture brings powerful AI computing capabilities inside high-performance memory, to accelerate large-scale processing in data centers, high performance computing systems and AI-enabled mobile applications. Kwangil Park, senior vice president of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics stated, "Our groundbreaking HBM-PIM is the industry's first programmable PIM solution tailored for diverse AI-driven workloads such as HPC, training and inference. We plan to build upon this breakthrough by further collaborating with AI solution providers for even more advanced PIM-powered applications."

This week Samsung has started rolling out Android's December security updates to mobile devices to patch critical security vulnerabilities in the operating system and related components. This comes after Android had published their December 2020 security updates bulletin, which includes patches for critical vulnerabilities impacting the latest devices.

Samsung phones will soon come with automatic spam call blocking. The feature, which is part of Samsung Smart Call, will debut on the Galaxy Note20 and will roll out to all new devices released after 2020.

Samsung brags to advertisers that "First screen ads", seen by all users of its Smart TVs when they turn on, are 100 per cent viewable, audience targeted, and seen 400 times per TV per month. "Dear Samsung, why are you showing Ads on my Smart TV without my consent? I didn't agree to this in the privacy settings but I keep on getting this, why?" said a user on Samsung's TV forum, adding last week that "There is no mention of advertising on any of their brand new boxes".

Red Hat announced collaboration with Samsung to deliver 5G network solutions built on Red Hat OpenShift, and will help service providers make 5G a reality across use cases, including 5G core, edge computing, IoT, machine learning and more. Containerized network functions and virtualized network functions provide a path to transformation for modern telcos, leading to greater service flexibility and a faster delivery mechanism for new offerings.

South Korea has indicted Samsung Group vice chairman Lee Jae-yong over his role in a 2015 merger that made him heir apparent to the multinational's empire. Samsung and Lee have denied the charges, which include alleged breaches of the country's Capital Markets Act and External Audit Act.
