Google Cloud announced it has been selected by ABB to further expand the cloud footprint of its Information System services. The Swiss-headquartered global technology leader has chosen Google Cloud as part of the organization's 'Rationalizing IT Operations' initiative, which seeks to further increase the scalability and resilience of its infrastructure services to all ABB businesses.

Malicious Android apps have a habit of sneaking their way into the Google Play store without getting caught by the usual security protections. A collection of more than 20 apps found by security firm Kaspersky on Google Play pretended to be Minecraft mods but were actually adware.

A blog post published Thursday by cybersecurity firm Armorblox details how phishing campaigns are using some of the technologies available from Google and offers advice on how to protect yourself. In the post entitled "OK Google, Build Me a Phishing Campaign," Armorblox's co-founder and head of engineering, Arjun Sambamoorthy, explains that Google is a ripe target for exploitation due to the free and democratized nature of many of its services.

Google said Thursday it will be rolling out end-to-end encryption for Android users, making it harder for anyone - including law enforcement - to read the content of messages. "End-to-end encryption ensures that no one, including Google and third parties, can read the content of your messages as they travel between your phone and the phone of the person you're messaging," said Google product lead Drew Rowny in announcing the rollout.

Google this week announced an update to its Chrome store policies that requires all extensions to be explicit about the collection and use of user data. Now, Google is limiting what developers are allowed to do with the user data they collect, and the new policy requires developers to be clear about their extension's privacy practices, directly on the Chrome Web Store listing.

Starting January 2021, developers of Chrome extensions will have to certify their data use and privacy practices and provide information about the data collected by the extension(s), "In clear and easy to understand language," in the extension's detail page in the Chrome Web Store. "You'll need to provide information about your app's privacy practices, including the practices of third-party partners whose code you integrate into your app, in App Store Connect," Apple told app developers.

Google offers a wide array of free software and services that allow users to create documents, spreadsheets, online forms, and free websites. The first Google tool we will look at is the free form creation service called Google Forms that lets anyone create free online surveys that can then be sent to other users.

Matthew Green, associate professor of computer science at Johns Hopkins University in the US, wants Google and other email providers to make it possible for people to deny they've written old email messages. He has asked the Gmail goliath, as the largest commercial email service, to rotate its Domain Keys Identified Mail encryption keys periodically and to publish old keys to reduce the incentive for hackers to steal and leak email messages.
