Microsoft has confirmed that from the beginning of 2023, it will introduce an EU Data Boundary solution designed to help customers in the European Union and the European Free Trade Association comply with legislation including the General Data Protection Regulation. From January 1st, the Redmond tech monster promises to give customers the ability to store and process their customer data within the EU Data Boundary for Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform and Dynamics 365 services.

The signature of a US Executive Order by President Biden on 7 October 2022, along with the regulations issued by US Attorney General Merrick Garland, agreed that access to personal data from Europe by US intelligence agencies would be limited to what is necessary and proportionate to protect national security. Under the Cloud Act, US law enforcement authorities can request personal data from US-based technology companies, regardless of the data's location, and this has been one of the key reasons data sharing with America is viewed as potentially not complying with EU privacy rules.

The new directive, called "NIS2", will replace the current directive on security of network and information systems. NIS2 will set the baseline for cybersecurity risk management measures and reporting obligations across all sectors that are covered by the directive, such as energy, transport, health and digital infrastructure.

The website of the European Parliament has been taken down following a DDoS attack claimed by a pro-Russia group of hacktivists calling themselves Anonymous Russia. The Director General for Communication and Spokesperson of the European Parliament, Jaume Dauch, also stated after the website went down that the outage was caused by an ongoing DDoS attack.

German copper producer Aurubis has announced that it suffered a cyberattack that forced it to shut down IT systems to prevent the attack's spread. Aurubis is Europe's largest copper producer and the second largest in the world, with 6,900 employees worldwide, and produces one million tonnes of copper cathodes yearly. In an announcement published on their website, Aurubis says they shut down various systems at their locations but that it has not impacted production.

A major internet subsea fiber cable in the South of France was severed yesterday at 20:30 UTC, causing connectivity problems in Europe, Asia, and the United States, including data packet losses and increased website response latency. Users still face problems due to app and content providers routing traffic through the impacted paths.

HP printer owners forced to use non-HP ink and toner cartridges in Europe will receive compensation from the vendor for not adequately informing them about the limitations of the devices they bought. The problem stems from the introduction of a system called 'Dynamic Security,' which HP promoted to its customers as a way to upgrade their experience and maintain the integrity of its printing systems.

MBDA, one of the largest missile developers and manufacturers in Europe, has responded to rumors about a cyberattack on its infrastructure saying that claims of a breach of its systems are false. The extortionists had acquired MBDA data from an external drive used by the company's Italian division and demanded a ransom to not leak or sell the files.

Threat analysts have uncovered a new campaign attributed to APT37, a North Korean group of hackers, targeting high-value organizations in the Czech Republic, Poland, and other European countries. In this campaign, the hackers use malware known as Konni, a remote access trojan capable of establishing persistence and performing privilege escalation on the host.

The Council of the European Union said today that Russian hackers and hacker groups increasingly attacking "Essential" organizations worldwide could lead to spillover risks and potential escalation. "This increase in malicious cyber activities, in the context of the war against Ukraine, creates unacceptable risks of spillover effects, misinterpretation and possible escalation," the High Representative on behalf of the EU said Tuesday.
