Merlin Venture announced the formation of a Public Sector growth program for cybersecurity software-as-a-service startups. The program leverages Merlin Ventures capital, engineering lab, FedRAMP certification acceleration process, and Public Sector relationships to help startups tap into a $200 billion Public Sector IT solutions market.
MITRE Engenuity will assess commercial cybersecurity products' ability to detect the threat posed by the groups commonly known as Sandworm and Wizard Spider, both of whom have used data encryption as a key element of their attacks. The evaluations will use ATT&CK, a MITRE-curated knowledge base of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures that is based on published threat reporting.

China-linked cyber-espionage group Mustang Panda is targeting telecommunications companies in Asia, Europe, and the United States for espionage purposes, according to a warning from security researchers at McAfee. The new malware attacks, McAfee says, employ the same tactics, techniques and procedures previously associated with Mustang Panda.

Researchers have disclosed vulnerabilities in multiple WordPress plugins that, if successfully exploited, could allow an attacker to run arbitrary code and take over a website in certain scenarios. The flaws were uncovered in Elementor, a website builder plugin used on more than seven million sites, and WP Super Cache, a tool used to serve cached pages of a WordPress site.
