Following US sanctions aimed at disrupting Huawei's use of US chip design tech, Britain's National Cyber Security Centre declared it would not vet homegrown Chinese chips in Huawei equipment, giving the government justification for a ban on national security grounds.

Johnson's government allowed Huawei to roll out up to 35 percent of Britain's 5G network under the condition that it stays out of "Core" elements dealing with personal data.
