Windows 10 Cumulative Updates KB5001330 & KB5001337 released

As part of the April Patch cycle, Microsoft is rolling out a new cumulative update for all supported version of Windows, including KB5001330 for Windows 10 20H2/2004 and KB5001337 for Windows 10 1909. Like every Windows Update, you can open the Settings app and click on the Windows Update option to install the patches.

RIP: Microsoft Edge Legacy nuked by April Windows Updates

Microsoft has confirmed that today's release of mandatory Patch Tuesday updates will automatically remove Edge Legacy and replace it with the new Chromium-based Edge. In older versions of Windows 10, users who wished to use it could download it from the Microsoft Edge site or wait for the mandatory Windows Update.

In future versions of Windows 10, Microsoft has removed the venerable 'Administrative Tools' and added a new 'Windows Tools' control panel with almost double the number of tools promoted within it. As part of this addition, Microsoft took shortcuts previously located in Start Menu folders such as the 'Windows System', 'Windows Accessories', and 'Windows PowerShell' and moved them into the new Windows Tools control panel.

Microsoft: Windows 10 1909 reaches end of service next month

Microsoft has reminded users that Windows 10, version 1909, will reach the end of service next month, in May 2021. Windows 10 releases reaching end of support in May. The company says that this end of support deadline applies to all Windows 10 1903 editions in a support document published earlier this week.

Contestants hacked Microsoft's Windows 10 OS twice during the second day of the Pwn2Own 2021 competition, together with the Google Chrome web browser and the Zoom video communication platform. The first to demo a successful Windows 10 exploit on Wednesday and earn $40,000 was Palo Alto Networks' Tao Yan who used a Race Condition bug to escalate to SYSTEM privileges from a normal user on a fully patched Windows 10 machine.

During the first day of Pwn2Own 2021, contestants won $440,000 after successfully exploiting previously unknown vulnerabilities to hack Microsoft's Windows 10 OS, the Exchange mail server, and the Teams communication platform. The first to fall was Microsoft Exchange in the Server category after the Devcore team achieved remote code execution on an Exchange server by chaining together an authentication bypass and a local privilege escalation.
