According to a recent study by Research and Markets, the global edge computing market is expected to grow from $11.24 billion in 2022 to $155.9 billion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate of 38.9%. SEE: Don't curb your enthusiasm: Trends and challenges in edge computing. As with any new technology, there are risks inherent in adopting edge computing.

Edge computing makes it possible for businesses to optimize their systems by moving data processing to the sources where the data is created rather than depending on data centers to process and analyze data. Edge computing is a computing model that places key processing tasks within the framework or environment where data was generated.

We'd love to be able to determine, given that the bug relates to the incorrect handling of input data, whether this bug leads to a worrying security outcome such as EoP, short for elevation of privilege, or if it can be abused for a more disastrous result such as full-blown RCE, short for remote code execution. As a result, modern browsers generally split themselves into numerous separate processes, for example so that each tab is handled in an independent process, thus preventing one runwaway tab from trivially leeching data such as cookies and access tokens from others tabs related to completely different websites.

The new Microsoft Edge 105 is not starting for many Windows users due to a deprecated group policy used to disable reporting of usage and crash-related data to Microsoft. On Thursday, Microsoft Edge 105 was released with numerous enhancements, including enhanced security mode improvements and new group policies.

Most organizations are deep into a phase of major growth and evolution that's called "Digital acceleration." The goal of digital acceleration for organizations is to adapt and thrive-despite the global pandemic and the nonstop introduction of new cyber threats. Digital acceleration has led to a rapid expansion of attack surfaces and creation of new network edges, including LAN, WAN, 5G, and multi-cloud.

Microsoft wants to make it safer for Edge users to browse and visit unfamiliar websites by automatically applying stronger security settings. "With enhanced security mode, Microsoft Edge helps reduce the risk of an attack by automatically applying more conservative security settings on unfamiliar sites and adapts over time as you continue to browse."

Microsoft is rolling out a new update to the Microsoft Edge Stable Channel over the coming days to improve the web browser's security defaults when visiting less popular websites. Starting with version 104.0.1293.47, Edge will toggle on the "Basic" level of security when the "Enhance your security on the web" optional browsing mode is enabled in settings.

Microsoft says Microsoft Edge users will notice improved performance and a smaller disk footprint because the web browser now automatically compresses disk caches. "Beginning with Microsoft Edge 102 on Windows, Microsoft Edge automatically compresses disk caches on devices that meet eligibility checks, to ensure the compression will be beneficial without degrading performance," the Microsoft Edge Team said Wednesday.

The rapid growth of personal and Internet-of-Things devices connecting to enterprise networks has increased the need to have fine-grained control over what is allowed into the network and with what permissions. Network access control solutions can ensure only devices that should attach to the network do, and can restrict what they have access to.

"This sector has a lot of proprietary IoT and industrial automation at the edge but it's not very easy for them to manage. Now they're evolving the application they got from equipment makers such as ABB, Bosch, or Siemens to run on a mainstream compute platform." Hood calls this the industrial 'device edge', an incarnation of edge computing in which large numbers of devices are connected directly to local computing resources rather than having to backhaul traffic to distant datacenters.
