Apple quietly patches yet another iPhone 0-day – check you have 15.0.2

We were going to say "Unexpected updates", but all Apple security patches are, of course, unexpected by design.

Apple deliberately announces security fixes only after they've been published, so you couldn't plan for them even if you wanted.

Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.

What to do? Look up the bug bulletin on Apple security page HT212846.

In several previous emergency update situations where Apple has witheld its official email security bulletins, the reason has turned out to be that related updates were also needed for other operating system in Apple's menagerie, including macOS and older flavours of iOS. As a result, Apple said nothing much about anything until all the updates were ready.

As usual, we can't say, but we advise you to keep your eye on Apple's core security page, numbered HT20122, in case there's any additional news you need to keep up with over the next few days.
