Microsoft has started replacing the legacy version of the Edge browser with the new Chromium-based Edge in Windows 10 Dev builds.
This change is rolling out to all customers installing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21313, offered through the Dev Channel and available after joining the Windows 10 Insider Program.
Mandatory Windows 10 updates previously rolled out in September 2020 to systems running Windows 10 versions 1809, 1903, 1909, and 2004 to force install the new Microsoft Edge and remove the legacy version.
Microsoft previously announced that Edge Legacy will be permanently removed and replaced with the new Microsoft Edge after installing April's Windows 10 Patch Tuesday security update.
"To replace this out of support application, we are announcing that the new Microsoft Edge will be available as part of the Windows 10 cumulative monthly security update-otherwise referred to as the Update Tuesday release-on April 13, 2021," the Microsoft Edge Team said.
Customers with 150 or more Windows 10 Enterprise paid seats can also request free guidance on how to deploy the new Microsoft Edge through the FastTrack service.
