Will Britain's Huawei decision serve as a blueprint for other nations' 5G infrastructure rollouts?
U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday announced that the country's four biggest telecommunications firms will be allowed to use equipment from Huawei for up to 35 percent of non-sensitive parts of their 5G and gigabit-capable networks.
In 2018, Australia banned the use of Huawei equpment in 5G networks.
Jeremy Mitchell, the director of public affairs for Huawei Australia, says Australia's decision was based on the country having received "Incorrect advice" about 5G network rollouts.
What remains to be seen is whether countries that use Huawei's equipment will trade some degree of national security for a faster and less expensive 5G rollout.
