Another ransomware operation, the LockBit gang, now threatens to leak what it describes as files stolen from the City of Oakland's systems.The City of Oakland is yet to issue a statement regarding the claims made by the LockBit ransomware gang.

The Play ransomware gang has begun to leak data from the City of Oakland, California, that was stolen in a recent cyberattack. The initial data leak consists of a 10GB multi-part RAR archive allegedly containing confidential documents, employee information, passports, and IDs.

The Play ransomware gang has taken responsibility for a cyberattack on the City of Oakland that has disrupted IT systems since mid-February. Oakland is a city in California on the east side of the San Francisco Bay Area with a population of about 440,000.

Oakland has declared a local state of emergency because of the impact of a ransomware attack that forced the City to take all its IT systems offline on February 8th. Interim City Administrator G. Harold Duffey declared a state of emergency to allow the City of Oakland to expedite orders, materials and equipment procurement, and activate emergency workers when needed."Today, Interim City Administrator, G. Harold Duffey issued a local state of emergency due to the ongoing impacts of the network outages resulting from the ransomware attack that began on Wednesday, February 8," a statement issued today reads.

The City of Oakland was hit by a ransomware attack on Wednesday night that forced it to take all systems offline until the network is secured and affected services are brought back online. The attack has not affected core services, with the City saying that 911 dispatch and fire and emergency resources are all working as expected.
