Security News > 2020 > July > Firefox 79 is out – it’s a double-update month so patch now!
Well, 28 July 2020 is a Blue Firefox Update event - the second major security fix of the month, given that Mozilla now uses an every-four-weeks-on-Tuesday rhythm, and Firefox 78.0 came out on the first day of the month.
Microsoft and Adobe follow a process of "Once each month on the second Tuesday"; Oracle has a system than delivers "Four times a year on the Tuesday closest to the 17th day of the first month of each calendar quarter", and Apple favours the "When security fixes are ready they arrive, and we deliberately don't say exactly when for security reasons" approach.
The good news is that there are no "Red-coded" critical security fixes this time, as you will see from Mozilla security bulletin MFSA2020-30.
As we've explained before, most remote code execution attacks - where crooks trick your browser into treating data as code and running it, bypassing any security checks or pop-up warnings - depend on the attacker being able to guess where to "Land" in memory on your computer.
As usual, go to the Hamburger icon at the top right of the Firefox window, then use Help > About Firefox to check for the 79.0 version and download it if needed.
