Voatz defends blockchain solution for its voting via app
2020-02-14 20:25

In a conference call on Thursday, Voatz responded to MIT researchers' critique of its voting app.

Voatz combines a smartphone app, biometric verification, and Hyperledger blockchain to make voting easy for people who can't physically make it to the ballot box.

To verify a voter's identity, the Voatz app uses a three-step process that uses the smartphone's camera and its fingerprint recognition or facial recognition.

Once the voter is authenticated, the app matches the voter's "Selfie" to the facial picture on their passport or driver's license and confirms the voter's eligibility to vote against the state's voter registration database.

Unlike permissionless blockchain frameworks like Bitcoin, a voter or auditor must first be verified to use this type of blockchain.
