branches to speculatively execute code patterns that in
turn could be made to leak other non-readable content in

firmware updates are supplied over regular channels by
IBM. As this feature can have a performance impact, it
can be disabled using the 'nospec' kernel commandline
        option.

      - CVE-2017-5754: Local attackers on systems with modern
CPUs featuring deep instruction pipelining could use
code patterns in userspace to speculative executive code
that would read otherwise read protected memory, an
attack similar to CVE-2017-5753. This problem is
mitigated by unmapping the Linux Kernel from the user
address space during user code execution, following a
approach called 'KAISER'. The terms used here are
'KAISER' / 'Kernel Address Isolation' and 'PTI' / 'Page
Table Isolation'. This update does this on the Intel
x86_64 and IBM Power architecture. Updates are also
necessary for the ARM architecture, but will be
delivered in the next round of updates. This feature can
be enabled / disabled by the 'pti=[on|off|auto]' or
'nopti' commandline options. The following security bugs
        were fixed :

      - CVE-2017-17806: The HMAC implementation (crypto/hmac.c)
in the Linux kernel did not validate that the underlying
cryptographic hash algorithm is unkeyed, allowing a
local attacker able to use the AF_ALG-based hash
        interface (CONFIG_CRYPTO_USER_API_HASH) and the SHA-3
hash algorithm (CONFIG_CRYPTO_SHA3) to cause a kernel
stack-based buffer overflow by executing a crafted
sequence of system calls that encounter a missing SHA-3
        initialization (bnc#1073874).

      - CVE-2017-17805: The Salsa20 encryption algorithm in the
Linux kernel did not correctly handle zero-length
inputs, allowing a local attacker able to use the
        AF_ALG-based skcipher interface
(CONFIG_CRYPTO_USER_API_SKCIPHER) to cause a denial of
service (uninitialized-memory free and kernel crash) or
have unspecified other impact by executing a crafted
sequence of system calls that use the blkcipher_walk
        API. Both the generic implementation
        (crypto/salsa20_generic.c) and x86 implementation
        (arch/x86/crypto/salsa20_glue.c) of Salsa20 were
        vulnerable (bnc#1073792).

      - CVE-2017-15868: The bnep_add_connection function in
net/bluetooth/bnep/core.c in the Linux kernel did not
ensure that an l2cap socket is available, which allowed
local users to gain privileges via a crafted application
        (bnc#1071470).

      - CVE-2017-13167: An elevation of privilege vulnerability
in the kernel sound timer. (bnc#1072876).

      - CVE-2017-16538: drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb-v2/lmedm04.c
in the Linux kernel allowed local users to cause a
denial of service (general protection fault and system
crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a
crafted USB device, related to a missing warm-start
        check and incorrect attach timing
        (dm04_lme2510_frontend_attach versus dm04_lme2510_tuner)
        (bnc#1066569).

      - CVE-2017-17558: The usb_destroy_configuration function
in drivers/usb/core/config.c in the USB core subsystem
in the Linux kernel did not consider the maximum number
of configurations and interfaces before attempting to
release resources, which allowed local users to cause a
denial of service (out-of-bounds write access) or
possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB
        device (bnc#1072561).

      - CVE-2017-17450: net/netfilter/xt_osf.c in the Linux
kernel did not require the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability for
        add_callback and remove_callback operations, which
allowed local users to bypass intended access
restrictions because the xt_osf_fingers data structure
is shared across all net namespaces (bnc#1071695).

      - CVE-2017-8824: The dccp_disconnect function in
net/dccp/proto.c in the Linux kernel allowed local users
to gain privileges or cause a denial of service
(use-after-free) via an AF_UNSPEC connect system call
        during the DCCP_LISTEN state (bnc#1070771).

      - CVE-2017-16939: The XFRM dump policy implementation in
net/xfrm/xfrm_user.c in the Linux kernel allowed local
users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service
        (use-after-free) via a crafted SO_RCVBUF setsockopt
system call in conjunction with XFRM_MSG_GETPOLICY
        Netlink messages (bnc#1069702).

      - CVE-2017-15115: The sctp_do_peeloff function in
net/sctp/socket.c in the Linux kernel did not check
whether the intended netns is used in a peel-off action,
which allowed local users to cause a denial of service
(use-after-free and system crash) or possibly have
unspecified other impact via crafted system calls
        (bnc#1068671).

      - CVE-2017-14106: The tcp_disconnect function in
net/ipv4/tcp.c in the Linux kernel allowed local users
to cause a denial of service (__tcp_select_window
divide-by-zero error and system crash) by triggering a
disconnect within a certain tcp_recvmsg code path
        (bnc#1056982).

      - CVE-2017-11600: net/xfrm/xfrm_policy.c in the Linux
kernel through 4.12.3, when CONFIG_XFRM_MIGRATE is
enabled, did not ensure that the dir value of
xfrm_userpolicy_id is XFRM_POLICY_MAX or less, which
allowed local users to cause a denial of service
(out-of-bounds access) or possibly have unspecified
other impact via an XFRM_MSG_MIGRATE xfrm Netlink
        message (bnc#1050231).

      - CVE-2017-7472: The KEYS subsystem in the Linux kernel
allowed local users to cause a denial of service (memory
        consumption) via a series of
        KEY_REQKEY_DEFL_THREAD_KEYRING keyctl_set_reqkey_keyring
        calls (bnc#1034862).

      - CVE-2017-16534: The cdc_parse_cdc_header function in
drivers/usb/core/message.c in the Linux kernel allowed
local users to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds
read and system crash) or possibly have unspecified
other impact via a crafted USB device (bnc#1066693).

The update package also includes non-security fixes. See advisory for
    details.

descriptionUpdated kernel packages that fix six bugs are now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 Extended Update Support. Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having a security impact of Important. A Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base score, which gives a detailed severity rating, is available for each vulnerability from the CVE link(s) in the References section. The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux operating system. Security Fix(es) : * kernel: Use-after-free vulnerability in DCCP socket (CVE-2017-8824, Important) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section. Bug Fix(es) : * Previously, there were cases where the ethtool kernel code called the vzalloc() function, which allocates virtually contiguous memory with zero fill, with a size of zero. Consequently, running the ethtool -d command to query hardware registers led to the following dmesg error : ethtool: vmalloc: allocation failure: 0 bytes, mode:0x24080c2(GFP_KERNEL| __GFP_HIGHMEM|__GFP_ZERO) With this update, the kernel code has been fixed to avoid the invalid vzalloc call, and the dmesg error no longer occurs. (BZ#1530128) * Previously, if an NFSv4 mount operation encountered an NFS client structure that has not completed initialization, the trunking detection logic waited for the operation to complete. Consequently, if a concurrent NFSv4 mount operation added another item to the list of NFS client structures, this client was not able to begin initialization, because it was waiting on the mutex held by the other process, and a deadlock occurred. This update fixes NFS to wait until the NFS client structure initialization is completed before adding a new structure to the list. As a result, the deadlock no longer occurs, and the NFS client can now initialize as expected under the described circumstances. (BZ#1530134) * If the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) created a new set of page tables and mapped a segment of code at a low address, the operating system (OS) failed to boot. This update fixes the EFI code, and the OS now boots as expected under the described circumstances. (BZ#1535880) * The Return Trampoline (Retpoline) mechanism mitigates the branch target injection, also known as the Spectre variant 2 vulnerability. With this update, Retpoline has been implemented into the Red Hat Enterprise Linux kernel. (BZ#1539648) * This update adds a new line to the /proc/cpuinfo file to show all available facilities that are reported by the stfle instruction on IBM z systems. (BZ #1540088)

    titleOracle Linux 6 : kernel (ELSA-2018-1319) (Meltdown)
  • NASL familyHuawei Local Security Checks
    NASL idEULEROS_SA-2018-1026.NASL
descriptionAccording to the versions of the kernel packages installed, the EulerOS installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerabilities : - The XFRM dump policy implementation in net/xfrm/xfrm_user.c in the Linux kernel before 4.13.11 allows local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (use-after-free) via a crafted SO_RCVBUF setsockopt system call in conjunction with XFRM_MSG_GETPOLICY Netlink messages.(CVE-2017-16939) - The bio_map_user_iov and bio_unmap_user functions in block/bio.c in the Linux kernel before 4.13.8 do unbalanced refcounting when a SCSI I/O vector has small consecutive buffers belonging to the same page. The bio_add_pc_page function merges them into one, but the page reference is never dropped. This causes a memory leak and possible system lockup (exploitable against the host OS by a guest OS user, if a SCSI disk is passed through to a virtual machine) due to an out-of-memory condition.(CVE-2017-12190) - The assoc_array_insert_into_terminal_node function in lib/assoc_array.c in the Linux kernel before 4.13.11 mishandles node splitting, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and panic) via a crafted application, as demonstrated by the keyring key type, and key addition and link creation operations.(CVE-2017-12193) - The ip6_find_1stfragopt function in net/ipv6/output_core.c in the Linux kernel through 4.12.3 allows local users to cause a denial of service (integer overflow and infinite loop) by leveraging the ability to open a raw socket.(CVE-2017-7542) - The bnep_add_connection function in net/bluetooth/bnep/core.c in the Linux kernel before 3.19 does not ensure that an l2cap socket is available, which allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted application.(CVE-2017-15868) - The dccp_disconnect function in net/dccp/proto.c in the Linux kernel through 4.14.3 allows local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (use-after-free) via an AF_UNSPEC connect system call during the DCCP_LISTEN state.(CVE-2017-8824) - net/netfilter/nfnetlink_cthelper.c in the Linux kernel through 4.14.4 does not require the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability for new, get, and del operations, which allows local users to bypass intended access restrictions because the nfnl_cthelper_list data structure is shared across all net namespaces.(CVE-2017-17448) - The __netlink_deliver_tap_skb function in net/netlink/af_netlink.c in the Linux kernel through 4.14.4, when CONFIG_NLMON is enabled, does not restrict observations of Netlink messages to a single net namespace, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information by leveraging the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability to sniff an nlmon interface for all Netlink activity on the system.(CVE-2017-17449) - net/netfilter/xt_osf.c in the Linux kernel through 4.14.4 does not require the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability for add_callback and remove_callback operations, which allows local users to bypass intended access restrictions because the xt_osf_fingers data structure is shared across all net namespaces.(CVE-2017-17450) - The usb_destroy_configuration function in drivers/usb/core/config.c in the USB core subsystem in the Linux kernel through 4.14.5 does not consider the maximum number of configurations and interfaces before attempting to release resources, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write access) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB device.(CVE-2017-17558) - The Salsa20 encryption algorithm in the Linux kernel before 4.14.8 does not correctly handle zero-length inputs, allowing a local attacker able to use the AF_ALG-based skcipher interface (CONFIG_CRYPTO_USER_API_SKCIPHER) to cause a denial of service (uninitialized-memory free and kernel crash) or have unspecified other impact by executing a crafted sequence of system calls that use the blkcipher_walk API. Both the generic implementation (crypto/salsa20_generic.c) and x86 implementation (arch/x86/crypto/salsa20_glue.c) of Salsa20 were vulnerable.(CVE-2017-17805) - The HMAC implementation (crypto/hmac.c) in the Linux kernel before 4.14.8 does not validate that the underlying cryptographic hash algorithm is unkeyed, allowing a local attacker able to use the AF_ALG-based hash interface (CONFIG_CRYPTO_USER_API_HASH) and the SHA-3 hash algorithm (CONFIG_CRYPTO_SHA3) to cause a kernel stack buffer overflow by executing a crafted sequence of system calls that encounter a missing SHA-3 initialization.(CVE-2017-17806) - he KEYS subsystem in the Linux kernel before 4.14.6 omitted an access-control check when adding a key to the current task

descriptionThe SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 SP3 LTSS kernel was updated to receive various security and bugfixes. This update adds mitigations for various side channel attacks against modern CPUs that could disclose content of otherwise unreadable memory (bnc#1068032). - CVE-2017-5753: Local attackers on systems with modern CPUs featuring deep instruction pipelining could use attacker controllable speculative execution over code patterns in the Linux Kernel to leak content from otherwise not readable memory in the same address space, allowing retrieval of passwords, cryptographic keys and other secrets. This problem is mitigated by adding speculative fencing on affected code paths throughout the Linux kernel. - CVE-2017-5715: Local attackers on systems with modern CPUs featuring branch prediction could use mispredicted branches to speculatively execute code patterns that in turn could be made to leak other non-readable content in the same address space, an attack similar to CVE-2017-5753. This problem is mitigated by disabling predictive branches, depending on CPU architecture either by firmware updates and/or fixes in the user-kernel privilege boundaries. Please contact your CPU / hardware vendor for potential microcode or BIOS updates needed for this fix. As this feature can have a performance impact, it can be disabled using the

descriptionSeveral vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel that may lead to a privilege escalation, denial of service or information leaks. - CVE-2017-8824 Mohamed Ghannam discovered that the DCCP implementation did not correctly manage resources when a socket is disconnected and reconnected, potentially leading to a use-after-free. A local user could use this for denial of service (crash or data corruption) or possibly for privilege escalation. On systems that do not already have the dccp module loaded, this can be mitigated by disabling it:echo >> /etc/modprobe.d/disable-dccp.conf install dccp false - CVE-2017-16538 Andrey Konovalov reported that the dvb-usb-lmedm04 media driver did not correctly handle some error conditions during initialisation. A physically present user with a specially designed USB device can use this to cause a denial of service (crash). - CVE-2017-16644 Andrey Konovalov reported that the hdpvr media driver did not correctly handle some error conditions during initialisation. A physically present user with a specially designed USB device can use this to cause a denial of service (crash). - CVE-2017-16995 Jann Horn discovered that the Extended BPF verifier did not correctly model the behaviour of 32-bit load instructions. A local user can use this for privilege escalation. - CVE-2017-17448 Kevin Cernekee discovered that the netfilter subsystem allowed users with the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability in any user namespace, not just the root namespace, to enable and disable connection tracking helpers. This could lead to denial of service, violation of network security policy, or have other impact. - CVE-2017-17449 Kevin Cernekee discovered that the netlink subsystem allowed users with the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability in any user namespace to monitor netlink traffic in all net namespaces, not just those owned by that user namespace. This could lead to exposure of sensitive information. - CVE-2017-17450 Kevin Cernekee discovered that the xt_osf module allowed users with the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability in any user namespace to modify the global OS fingerprint list. - CVE-2017-17558 Andrey Konovalov reported that that USB core did not correctly handle some error conditions during initialisation. A physically present user with a specially designed USB device can use this to cause a denial of service (crash or memory corruption), or possibly for privilege escalation. - CVE-2017-17712 Mohamed Ghannam discovered a race condition in the IPv4 raw socket implementation. A local user could use this to obtain sensitive information from the kernel. - CVE-2017-17741 Dmitry Vyukov reported that the KVM implementation for x86 would over-read data from memory when emulating an MMIO write if the kvm_mmio tracepoint was enabled. A guest virtual machine might be able to use this to cause a denial of service (crash). - CVE-2017-17805 It was discovered that some implementations of the Salsa20 block cipher did not correctly handle zero-length input. A local user could use this to cause a denial of service (crash) or possibly have other security impact. - CVE-2017-17806 It was discovered that the HMAC implementation could be used with an underlying hash algorithm that requires a key, which was not intended. descriptionThe remote NewStart CGSL host, running version CORE 5.04 / MAIN 5.04, has kernel packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities: - A buffer overflow vulnerability due to a lack of input filtering of incoming fragmented datagrams was found in the IP-over-1394 driver [firewire-net] in a fragment handling code in the Linux kernel. The vulnerability exists since firewire supported IPv4, i.e. since version 2.6.31 (year 2009) till version v4.9-rc4. A maliciously formed fragment with a respectively large datagram offset would cause a memcpy() past the datagram buffer, which would cause a system panic or possible arbitrary code execution. The flaw requires [firewire-net] module to be loaded and is remotely exploitable from connected firewire devices, but not over a local network. (CVE-2016-8633) - A bug in the 32-bit compatibility layer of the ioctl handling code of the v4l2 video driver in the Linux kernel has been found. A memory protection mechanism ensuring that user-provided buffers always point to a userspace memory were disabled, allowing destination address to be in a kernel space. This flaw could be exploited by an attacker to overwrite a kernel memory from an unprivileged userspace process, leading to privilege escalation. (CVE-2017-13166) - The timer_create syscall implementation in kernel/time/posix-timers.c in the Linux kernel doesn

descriptionMohamed Ghannam discovered that the IPv4 raw socket implementation in the Linux kernel contained a race condition leading to uninitialized pointer usage. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-17712) Laurent Guerby discovered that the mbcache feature in the ext2 and ext4 filesystems in the Linux kernel improperly handled xattr block caching. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service. (CVE-2015-8952) Vitaly Mayatskikh discovered that the SCSI subsystem in the Linux kernel did not properly track reference counts when merging buffers. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (memory exhaustion). (CVE-2017-12190) ChunYu Wang discovered that a use-after-free vulnerability existed in the SCTP protocol implementation in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code, (CVE-2017-15115) Mohamed Ghannam discovered a use-after-free vulnerability in the DCCP protocol implementation in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-8824) USN-3540-1 mitigated CVE-2017-5715 (Spectre Variant 2) for the amd64 architecture in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. This update provides the compiler-based retpoline kernel mitigation for the amd64 and i386 architectures. Jann Horn discovered that microprocessors utilizing speculative execution and branch prediction may allow unauthorized memory reads via sidechannel attacks. This flaw is known as Spectre. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information, including kernel memory. (CVE-2017-5715). Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

descriptionThe openSUSE Leap 42.3 kernel was updated to 4.4.103 to receive various security and bugfixes. The following security bugs were fixed : - CVE-2017-1000405: A bug in the THP CoW support could be used by local attackers to corrupt memory of other processes and cause them to crash (bnc#1069496). - CVE-2017-1000410: The Linux kernel was affected by a vulnerability lies in the processing of incoming L2CAP commands - ConfigRequest, and ConfigResponse messages. This info leak is a result of uninitialized stack variables that may be returned to an attacker in their uninitialized state. (bnc#1070535). - CVE-2017-11600: net/xfrm/xfrm_policy.c in the Linux kernel did not ensure that the dir value of xfrm_userpolicy_id is XFRM_POLICY_MAX or less, which allowed local users to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds access) or possibly have unspecified other impact via an XFRM_MSG_MIGRATE xfrm Netlink message (bnc#1050231). - CVE-2017-12193: The assoc_array_insert_into_terminal_node function in lib/assoc_array.c in the Linux kernel mishandled node splitting, which allowed local users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and panic) via a crafted application, as demonstrated by the keyring key type, and key addition and link creation operations (bnc#1066192). - CVE-2017-15115: The sctp_do_peeloff function in net/sctp/socket.c in the Linux kernel did not check whether the intended netns is used in a peel-off action, which allowed local users to cause a denial of service (use-after-free and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via crafted system calls (bnc#1068671). - CVE-2017-16528: sound/core/seq_device.c in the Linux kernel allowed local users to cause a denial of service (snd_rawmidi_dev_seq_free use-after-free and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB device (bnc#1066629). - CVE-2017-16536: The cx231xx_usb_probe function in drivers/media/usb/cx231xx/cx231xx-cards.c in the Linux kernel allowed local users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB device (bnc#1066606). - CVE-2017-16537: The imon_probe function in drivers/media/rc/imon.c in the Linux kernel allowed local users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB device (bnc#1066573). - CVE-2017-16645: The ims_pcu_get_cdc_union_desc function in drivers/input/misc/ims-pcu.c in the Linux kernel allowed local users to cause a denial of service (ims_pcu_parse_cdc_data out-of-bounds read and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB device (bnc#1067132). - CVE-2017-16646: drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb/dib0700_devices.c in the Linux kernel allowed local users to cause a denial of service (BUG and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB device (bnc#1067105). - CVE-2017-16939: The XFRM dump policy implementation in net/xfrm/xfrm_user.c in the Linux kernel allowed local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (use-after-free) via a crafted SO_RCVBUF setsockopt system call in conjunction with XFRM_MSG_GETPOLICY Netlink messages (bnc#1069702). - CVE-2017-16994: The walk_hugetlb_range function in mm/pagewalk.c in the Linux kernel mishandled holes in hugetlb ranges, which allowed local users to obtain sensitive information from uninitialized kernel memory via crafted use of the mincore() system call (bnc#1069996). - CVE-2017-17448: net/netfilter/nfnetlink_cthelper.c in the Linux kernel did not require the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability for new, get, and del operations, which allowed local users to bypass intended access restrictions because the nfnl_cthelper_list data structure is shared across all net namespaces (bnc#1071693). - CVE-2017-17449: The __netlink_deliver_tap_skb function in net/netlink/af_netlink.c in the Linux kernel did not restrict observations of Netlink messages to a single net namespace, which allowed local users to obtain sensitive information by leveraging the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability to sniff an nlmon interface for all Netlink activity on the system (bnc#1071694). - CVE-2017-17450: net/netfilter/xt_osf.c in the Linux kernel did not require the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability for add_callback and remove_callback operations, which allowed local users to bypass intended access restrictions because the xt_osf_fingers data structure is shared across all net namespaces (bnc#1071695). - CVE-2017-7482: Fixed an overflow when decoding a krb5 principal. (bnc#1046107). - CVE-2017-8824: The dccp_disconnect function in net/dccp/proto.c in the Linux kernel allowed local users to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (use-after-free) via an AF_UNSPEC connect system call during the DCCP_LISTEN state (bnc#1070771). descriptionUSN-3581-1 fixed vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel for Ubuntu 17.10. This update provides the corresponding updates for the Linux Hardware Enablement (HWE) kernel from Ubuntu 17.10 for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Mohamed Ghannam discovered that the IPv4 raw socket implementation in the Linux kernel contained a race condition leading to uninitialized pointer usage. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-17712) ChunYu Wang discovered that a use-after-free vulnerability existed in the SCTP protocol implementation in the Linux kernel. (CVE-2017-8824) USN-3541-2 mitigated CVE-2017-5715 (Spectre Variant 2) for the amd64 architecture in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

descriptionSeveral vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel that may lead to a privilege escalation, denial of service or information leaks. - CVE-2017-5754 Multiple researchers have discovered a vulnerability in Intel processors, enabling an attacker controlling an unprivileged process to read memory from arbitrary addresses, including from the kernel and all other processes running on the system. This specific attack has been named Meltdown and is addressed in the Linux kernel for the Intel x86-64 architecture by a patch set named Kernel Page Table Isolation, enforcing a near complete separation of the kernel and userspace address maps and preventing the attack. This solution might have a performance impact, and can be disabled at boot time by passing pti=off to the kernel command line. On systems that do not already have the dccp module loaded, this can be mitigated by disabling it:echo >> /etc/modprobe.d/disable-dccp.conf install dccp false - CVE-2017-15868 Al Viro found that the Bluebooth Network Encapsulation Protocol (BNEP) implementation did not validate the type of the second socket passed to the BNEPCONNADD ioctl(), which could lead to memory corruption. A local user with the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability can use this for denial of service (crash or data corruption) or possibly for privilege escalation. - CVE-2017-16538 Andrey Konovalov reported that the dvb-usb-lmedm04 media driver did not correctly handle some error conditions during initialisation. A physically present user with a specially designed USB device can use this to cause a denial of service (crash). - CVE-2017-16939 Mohamed Ghannam reported (through Beyond Security

descriptionAccording to the version of the vzkernel package and the readykernel-patch installed, the Virtuozzo installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerabilities : - A vulnerability was found in DCCP socket handling code. dccp_disconnect() set the socket state to DCCP_CLOSED but did not properly free some of the resources associated with that socket. This could result in a use-after-free and could potentially allow an attacker to escalate their privileges. - The Linux kernel is vulnerable to a use-after-free issue. It could occur while closing a xfrm netlink socket, in xfrm_dump_policy_done. A user/process could use this flaw to potentially escalate their privileges on a system. - The function get_net_ns_by_id() does not check the net.count value when processing a peer network, which could lead to double free and memory corruption. An unprivileged local user could use this vulnerability to crash the system. - If the system uses iptables and there are iptables rules with TCPMSS action there, a remote attacker could cause a denial of service (use-after-free in tcpmss_mangle_packet function leading to memory corruption) or possibly have unspecified other impact by sending specially crafted network packets. - A flaw was found in the patches used to fix the

descriptionThe remote NewStart CGSL host, running version CORE 5.04 / MAIN 5.04, has kernel-rt packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities: - A buffer overflow vulnerability due to a lack of input filtering of incoming fragmented datagrams was found in the IP-over-1394 driver [firewire-net] in a fragment handling code in the Linux kernel. (CVE-2016-8633) - The Linux Kernel imposes a size restriction on the arguments and environmental strings passed through RLIMIT_STACK/RLIMIT_INFINITY, but does not take the argument and environment pointers into account, which allows attackers to bypass this limitation. (CVE-2017-1000365) - A bug in the 32-bit compatibility layer of the ioctl handling code of the v4l2 video driver in the Linux kernel has been found. A memory protection mechanism ensuring that user-provided buffers always point to a userspace memory were disabled, allowing destination address to be in a kernel space. This flaw could be exploited by an attacker to overwrite a kernel memory from an unprivileged userspace process, leading to privilege escalation. descriptionIt was discovered that an out-of-bounds write vulnerability existed in the Flash-Friendly File System (f2fs) in the Linux kernel. An attacker could construct a malicious file system that, when mounted, could cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-0750) It was discovered that a race condition leading to a use-after-free vulnerability existed in the ALSA PCM subsystem of the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-0861) It was discovered that the KVM implementation in the Linux kernel allowed passthrough of the diagnostic I/O port 0x80. An attacker in a guest VM could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) in the host OS. (CVE-2017-1000407) Bo Zhang discovered that the netlink wireless configuration interface in the Linux kernel did not properly validate attributes when handling certain requests. A local attacker with the CAP_NET_ADMIN could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2017-12153) Vitaly Mayatskikh discovered that the SCSI subsystem in the Linux kernel did not properly track reference counts when merging buffers. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (memory exhaustion). (CVE-2017-12190) It was discovered that the key management subsystem in the Linux kernel did not properly restrict key reads on negatively instantiated keys. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2017-12192) It was discovered that an integer overflow existed in the sysfs interface for the QLogic 24xx+ series SCSI driver in the Linux kernel. A local privileged attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2017-14051) Otto Ebeling discovered that the memory manager in the Linux kernel did not properly check the effective UID in some situations. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information. (CVE-2017-14140) It was discovered that the ATI Radeon framebuffer driver in the Linux kernel did not properly initialize a data structure returned to user space. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information (kernel memory). (CVE-2017-14156) ChunYu Wang discovered that the iSCSI transport implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly validate data structures. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2017-14489) James Patrick-Evans discovered a race condition in the LEGO USB Infrared Tower driver in the Linux kernel. A physically proximate attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-15102) ChunYu Wang discovered that a use-after-free vulnerability existed in the SCTP protocol implementation in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code, (CVE-2017-15115) It was discovered that the key management subsystem in the Linux kernel did not properly handle NULL payloads with non-zero length values. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2017-15274) It was discovered that the Bluebooth Network Encapsulation Protocol (BNEP) implementation in the Linux kernel did not validate the type of socket passed in the BNEPCONNADD ioctl(). A local attacker with the CAP_NET_ADMIN privilege could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-15868) Andrey Konovalov discovered a use-after-free vulnerability in the USB serial console driver in the Linux kernel. A physically proximate attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-16525) It was discovered that the netfilter passive OS fingerprinting (xt_osf) module did not properly perform access control checks. A local attacker could improperly modify the systemwide OS fingerprint list. (CVE-2017-17450) It was discovered that the HMAC implementation did not validate the state of the underlying cryptographic hash algorithm. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-17806) Denys Fedoryshchenko discovered a use-after-free vulnerability in the netfilter xt_TCPMSS filter of the Linux kernel. A remote attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2017-18017) Gareth Evans discovered that the shm IPC subsystem in the Linux kernel did not properly restrict mapping page zero. A local privileged attacker could use this to execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-5669) It was discovered that an integer overflow vulnerability existing in the IPv6 implementation in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (infinite loop). (CVE-2017-7542) Tommi Rantala and Brad Spengler discovered that the memory manager in the Linux kernel did not properly enforce the CONFIG_STRICT_DEVMEM protection mechanism. A local attacker with access to /dev/mem could use this to expose sensitive information or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-7889) Mohamed Ghannam discovered a use-after-free vulnerability in the DCCP protocol implementation in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2017-8824) Mohamed Ghannam discovered a NULL pointer dereference in the RDS (Reliable Datagram Sockets) protocol implementation of the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2018-5333) Fan Long Fei discovered that a race condition existed in loop block device implementation in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2018-5344) USN-3524-1 mitigated CVE-2017-5754 (Meltdown) for the amd64 architecture in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. This update provides the corresponding mitigations for the ppc64el architecture. Original advisory details : Jann Horn discovered that microprocessors utilizing speculative execution and indirect branch prediction may allow unauthorized memory reads via sidechannel attacks. This flaw is known as Meltdown. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information, including kernel memory. (CVE-2017-5754). Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.
