Vulnerable Configurations
Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE)
Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification (CAPEC)
- Accessing Functionality Not Properly Constrained by ACLs In applications, particularly web applications, access to functionality is mitigated by the authorization framework, whose job it is to map ACLs to elements of the application's functionality; particularly URL's for web apps. In the case that the administrator failed to specify an ACL for a particular element, an attacker may be able to access it with impunity. An attacker with the ability to access functionality not properly constrained by ACLs can obtain sensitive information and possibly compromise the entire application. Such an attacker can access resources that must be available only to users at a higher privilege level, can access management sections of the application or can run queries for data that he is otherwise not supposed to.
- Cross Zone Scripting An attacker is able to cause a victim to load content into their web-browser that bypasses security zone controls and gain access to increased privileges to execute scripting code or other web objects such as unsigned ActiveX controls or applets. This is a privilege elevation attack targeted at zone-based web-browser security. In a zone-based model, pages belong to one of a set of zones corresponding to the level of privilege assigned to that page. Pages in an untrusted zone would have a lesser level of access to the system and/or be restricted in the types of executable content it was allowed to invoke. In a cross-zone scripting attack, a page that should be assigned to a less privileged zone is granted the privileges of a more trusted zone. This can be accomplished by exploiting bugs in the browser, exploiting incorrect configuration in the zone controls, through a cross-site scripting attack that causes the attackers' content to be treated as coming from a more trusted page, or by leveraging some piece of system functionality that is accessible from both the trusted and less trusted zone. This attack differs from "Restful Privilege Escalation" in that the latter correlates to the inadequate securing of RESTful access methods (such as HTTP DELETE) on the server, while cross-zone scripting attacks the concept of security zones as implemented by a browser.
- Directory Indexing An adversary crafts a request to a target that results in the target listing/indexing the content of a directory as output. One common method of triggering directory contents as output is to construct a request containing a path that terminates in a directory name rather than a file name since many applications are configured to provide a list of the directory's contents when such a request is received. An adversary can use this to explore the directory tree on a target as well as learn the names of files. This can often end up revealing test files, backup files, temporary files, hidden files, configuration files, user accounts, script contents, as well as naming conventions, all of which can be used by an attacker to mount additional attacks.
- Subverting Environment Variable Values The attacker directly or indirectly modifies environment variables used by or controlling the target software. The attacker's goal is to cause the target software to deviate from its expected operation in a manner that benefits the attacker.
- Accessing, Modifying or Executing Executable Files An attack of this type exploits a system's configuration that allows an attacker to either directly access an executable file, for example through shell access; or in a possible worst case allows an attacker to upload a file and then execute it. Web servers, ftp servers, and message oriented middleware systems which have many integration points are particularly vulnerable, because both the programmers and the administrators must be in synch regarding the interfaces and the correct privileges for each interface.

Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues. last seen 2020-05-12 modified 2016-08-09 plugin id 92815 published 2016-08-09 reporter Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2016-2020 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2016-2020 and is owned by Tenable, Inc. or an Affiliate thereof. source https://www.tenable.com/plugins/nessus/92815 title Ubuntu 12.04 LTS / 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS : curl vulnerabilities (USN-3048-1) NASL family Debian Local Security Checks NASL id DEBIAN_DSA-3638.NASL description Several vulnerabilities were discovered in cURL, an URL transfer library : - CVE-2016-5419 Bru Rom discovered that libcurl would attempt to resume a TLS session even if the client certificate had changed. - CVE-2016-5420 It was discovered that libcurl did not consider client certificates when reusing TLS connections. - CVE-2016-5421 Marcelo Echeverria and Fernando Munoz discovered that libcurl was vulnerable to a use-after-free flaw. last seen 2020-05-12 modified 2016-08-05 plugin id 92730 published 2016-08-05 reporter This script is Copyright (C) 2016-2020 and is owned by Tenable, Inc. or an Affiliate thereof. source https://www.tenable.com/plugins/nessus/92730 title Debian DSA-3638-1 : curl - security update NASL family Huawei Local Security Checks NASL id EULEROS_SA-2019-1550.NASL description According to the versions of the curl packages installed, the EulerOS Virtualization installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerabilities : - curl version curl 7.20.0 to and including curl 7.59.0 contains a CWE-126: Buffer Over-read vulnerability in denial of service that can result in curl can be tricked into reading data beyond the end of a heap based buffer used to store downloaded RTSP content..(CVE-2018-1000301) - It was found that the libcurl library did not check the client certificate when choosing the TLS connection to reuse. An attacker could potentially use this flaw to hijack the authentication of the connection by leveraging a previously created connection with a different client certificate.(CVE-2016-5420) - It was discovered that libcurl could incorrectly reuse NTLM-authenticated connections for subsequent unauthenticated requests to the same host. If an application using libcurl established an NTLM-authenticated connection to a server, and sent subsequent unauthenticated requests to the same server, the unauthenticated requests could be sent over the NTLM-authenticated connection, appearing as if they were sent by the NTLM authenticated user.(CVE-2015-3143) - libcurl may read outside of a heap allocated buffer when doing FTP. When libcurl connects to an FTP server and successfully logs in (anonymous or not), it asks the server for the current directory with the `PWD` command. The server then responds with a 257 response containing the path, inside double quotes. The returned path name is then kept by libcurl for subsequent uses. Due to a flaw in the string parser for this directory name, a directory name passed like this but without a closing double quote would lead to libcurl not adding a trailing NUL byte to the buffer holding the name. When libcurl would then later access the string, it could read beyond the allocated heap buffer and crash or wrongly access data beyond the buffer, thinking it was part of the path. A malicious server could abuse this fact and effectively prevent libcurl-based clients to work with it - the PWD command is always issued on new FTP connections and the mistake has a high chance of causing a segfault. The simple fact that this has issue remained undiscovered for this long could suggest that malformed PWD responses are rare in benign servers. We are not aware of any exploit of this flaw. This bug was introduced in commit 415d2e7cb7(https://github.com/curl/curl/commit/415d2e7c b7), March 2005. In libcurl version 7.56.0, the parser always zero terminates the string but also rejects it if not terminated properly with a final double quote.(CVE-2017-1000254) - It was discovered that libcurl could incorrectly reuse Negotiate authenticated HTTP connections for subsequent requests. If an application using libcurl established a Negotiate authenticated HTTP connection to a server and sent subsequent requests with different credentials, the connection could be re-used with the initial set of credentials instead of using the new ones.(CVE-2015-3148) - Heap-based buffer overflow in the curl_easy_unescape function in lib/escape.c in cURL and libcurl 7.7 through 7.30.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted string ending in a last seen 2020-06-01 modified 2020-06-02 plugin id 125003 published 2019-05-14 reporter This script is Copyright (C) 2019-2020 and is owned by Tenable, Inc. or an Affiliate thereof. source https://www.tenable.com/plugins/nessus/125003 title EulerOS Virtualization 3.0.1.0 : curl (EulerOS-SA-2019-1550)
