Attack vector
UNKNOWN Attack complexity
UNKNOWN Privileges required
UNKNOWN Confidentiality impact
UNKNOWN Integrity impact
UNKNOWN Availability impact
UNKNOWN Summary
Buffer overflow in the browser kernel in Google Chrome before 2.0.172.33 allows remote HTTP servers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted response.
Vulnerable Configurations
Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE)
Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification (CAPEC)
- Buffer Overflow via Environment Variables This attack pattern involves causing a buffer overflow through manipulation of environment variables. Once the attacker finds that they can modify an environment variable, they may try to overflow associated buffers. This attack leverages implicit trust often placed in environment variables.
- Overflow Buffers Buffer Overflow attacks target improper or missing bounds checking on buffer operations, typically triggered by input injected by an attacker. As a consequence, an attacker is able to write past the boundaries of allocated buffer regions in memory, causing a program crash or potentially redirection of execution as per the attackers' choice.
- Client-side Injection-induced Buffer Overflow This type of attack exploits a buffer overflow vulnerability in targeted client software through injection of malicious content from a custom-built hostile service.
- Filter Failure through Buffer Overflow In this attack, the idea is to cause an active filter to fail by causing an oversized transaction. An attacker may try to feed overly long input strings to the program in an attempt to overwhelm the filter (by causing a buffer overflow) and hoping that the filter does not fail securely (i.e. the user input is let into the system unfiltered).
- MIME Conversion An attacker exploits a weakness in the MIME conversion routine to cause a buffer overflow and gain control over the mail server machine. The MIME system is designed to allow various different information formats to be interpreted and sent via e-mail. Attack points exist when data are converted to MIME compatible format and back.

description | The version of Google Chrome installed on the remote host is earlier than 2.0.172.33. Such versions are reportedly affected by multiple issues : - A buffer overflow caused by handling unspecified HTTP responses. This could lead to a denial of service or execution of arbitrary code. (CVE-2009-2121) - A denial of service caused by SSL renegotiation. This could cause the browser to crash. |

description | BUGTRAQ ID: 35462 CVE(CAN) ID: CVE-2009-2121 Google Chrome是Google发布的开源WEB浏览器。 Google Chrome在处理HTTP服务器的响应时存在缓冲区溢出漏洞。如果用户受骗访问了恶意网站并从服务器接收到了包含有超长分块编码块大小的响应报文,就会在memmove()中触发溢出,导致浏览器崩溃或执行任意代码。 Google Chrome 2.0.172.33 厂商补丁: Google ------ 目前厂商已经发布了升级补丁以修复这个安全问题,请到厂商的主页下载: <a href="http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/src/net/http/http_chunked_decoder.cc?r1=18687&r2=18686" target="_blank" rel=external nofollow>http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/src/net/http/http_chunked_decoder.cc?r1=18687&r2=18686</a> <a href="http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/src/net/http/http_chunked_decoder_unittest.cc?r1=18687&r2=18686" target="_blank" rel=external nofollow>http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/src/net/http/http_chunked_decoder_unittest.cc?r1=18687&r2=18686</a> <a href="http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=14508" target="_blank" rel=external nofollow>http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=14508</a> |
