Window Snyder Launches IoT Security Company Thistle Technologies
2021-04-26 14:06

IoT device security startup Thistle Technologies launched last week with $2.5 million in seed funding from Silicon Valley venture capital firm True Ventures.

Thistle Technologies was founded in October 2020 by Window Snyder, who over the past two decades held security leadership positions at Microsoft, Mozilla, Apple, Fastly, Intel and Square.

Snyder will serve as CEO of Thistle Technologies, which is based in San Francisco, California.

The new company's website currently does not provide any information about the products developed by the company, but Thistle said in a press release last week that its goal is to help IoT device manufacturers "Securely and reliably update firmware" by providing an update mechanism that they can quickly and easily add to their products.

"We're making it easier for device makers to deliver on their security requirements. When the update mechanism is resilient and reliable, the business can leverage that beyond security fixes to provide updates for new features with confidence. This can even open up new revenue streams for some customers. Security can be an enabler," Snyder said.

Phil Black, co-founder of True Ventures, commented, "Window has so many of the qualities we look for in founders. She has deep domain expertise, is highly respected within the security community, and she's driven by a deep passion to evolve her industry. What she's building is an astute and natural next step in security technologies."
