U.S. agents charge ex-employee of N.J. technology company with giving China sensitive military data

Sixing Liu, 47 -- also known as Steve Liu -- was a senior staff engineer at the company who helped work on precision navigation systems for the U.S. Department of Defense, federal authorities said. Liu was born in China, but is a legal U.S. resident who, until recently, lived in Flanders. On Nov. 12, 2010, Liu flew from Newark to Shanghai. When he returned from Shanghai later that month, U.S. customs officers inspected his bags and found a non-work-issued computer later found to contain hundreds of documents relating to the technology company’s projects. The company was not named in the federal criminal complaint. Authorities also found images of Liu making a presentation to a technology conference that was reportedly organized by the Chinese government, federal authorities said. Although listed as a company representative on the conference’s website, authorities said, Liu never told his technology company about his travel or role in the conference. [...]
