http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2002/09/05/1031115904024.html September 5 2002 The well-known Web page defacement archive, alldas.de, appears to have disappeared from the Net altogether. Attempts to access the site over the past week have met with no success. None of the better-known news sites on the Net have carried any report on the apparent demise of one of the Web's most valuable archives. Last September, there was a concerted distributed denial of service attack against safemode.org which hosted a mirror of the defacement archives. The attackers sent out a DDoS, spoofing safemode's IP and the Web sites which took the brunt of the attack complained to the ISP which was hosting safemode. As a result, the site was dropped by its ISP. The attack came at about the same time as one on alldas which resulted in that site becoming unavailable. In January this year, safemode stopped mirroring the defacement archive. Reporting on the incidents at the time, The Register, a UK-based IT news site, speculated that there appeared to be a coordinated attempt to force the defacement archives to be taken off the net - for whatever reasons. Reasoning that it seemed unlikely that script kiddies would want their handiwork - images of defaced sites - to be taken off the Net, The Register speculated that it made more sense to conclude that government and big business would prefer that the archives went offline. Attrition.org, another site which hosted a mirror of defaced Web pages, stopped doing so in May last year because it was finding it difficult to keep up with the pace of defacement. - ISN is currently hosted by Attrition.org To unsubscribe email majordomo () attrition org with 'unsubscribe isn' in the BODY of the mail.
