Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE)

Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification (CAPEC)

  • Subverting Environment Variable Values
The attacker directly or indirectly modifies environment variables used by or controlling the target software. The attacker's goal is to cause the target software to deviate from its expected operation in a manner that benefits the attacker.
  • Footprinting
An attacker engages in probing and exploration activity to identify constituents and properties of the target. Footprinting is a general term to describe a variety of information gathering techniques, often used by attackers in preparation for some attack. It consists of using tools to learn as much as possible about the composition, configuration, and security mechanisms of the targeted application, system or network. Information that might be collected during a footprinting effort could include open ports, applications and their versions, network topology, and similar information. While footprinting is not intended to be damaging (although certain activities, such as network scans, can sometimes cause disruptions to vulnerable applications inadvertently) it may often pave the way for more damaging attacks.
  • Exploiting Trust in Client (aka Make the Client Invisible)
An attack of this type exploits a programs' vulnerabilities in client/server communication channel authentication and data integrity. It leverages the implicit trust a server places in the client, or more importantly, that which the server believes is the client. An attacker executes this type of attack by placing themselves in the communication channel between client and server such that communication directly to the server is possible where the server believes it is communicating only with a valid client. There are numerous variations of this type of attack.
  • Browser Fingerprinting
An attacker carefully crafts small snippets of Java Script to efficiently detect the type of browser the potential victim is using. Many web-based attacks need prior knowledge of the web browser including the version of browser to ensure successful exploitation of a vulnerability. Having this knowledge allows an attacker to target the victim with attacks that specifically exploit known or zero day weaknesses in the type and version of the browser used by the victim. Automating this process via Java Script as a part of the same delivery system used to exploit the browser is considered more efficient as the attacker can supply a browser fingerprinting method and integrate it with exploit code, all contained in Java Script and in response to the same web page request by the browser.
  • Session Credential Falsification through Prediction
This attack targets predictable session ID in order to gain privileges. The attacker can predict the session ID used during a transaction to perform spoofing and session hijacking.

descriptionAccording to the versions of the kernel packages installed, the EulerOS Virtualization installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerabilities : - An information-leak vulnerability was found in the kernel when it truncated a file to a smaller size which consisted of an inline extent that was compressed. The data between the new file size and the old file size was not discarded and the number of bytes used by the inode were not correctly decremented, which gave the wrong report for callers of the stat(2) syscall. This wasted metadata space and allowed for the truncated data to be leaked, and data corruption or loss to occur. A caller of the clone ioctl could exploit this flaw by using only standard file-system operations without root access to read the truncated data.(CVE-2015-8374) - A flaw was found in the Linux kernel

descriptionThe Linux kernel for openSUSE Leap 42.1 was updated to the 4.1.15 stable release, and also includes security and bugfixes. Following security bugs were fixed : - CVE-2016-0728: A reference leak in keyring handling with join_session_keyring() could lead to local attackers gain root privileges. (bsc#962075). - CVE-2015-7550: A local user could have triggered a race between read and revoke in keyctl (bnc#958951). - CVE-2015-8767: A case can occur when sctp_accept() is called by the user during a heartbeat timeout event after the 4-way handshake. Since sctp_assoc_migrate() changes both assoc->base.sk and assoc->ep, the bh_sock_lock in sctp_generate_heartbeat_event() will be taken with the listening socket but released with the new association socket. The result is a deadlock on any future attempts to take the listening socket lock. (bsc#961509) - CVE-2015-8539: A negatively instantiated user key could have been used by a local user to leverage privileges (bnc#958463). - CVE-2015-8569: The (1) pptp_bind and (2) pptp_connect functions in drivers/net/ppp/pptp.c in the Linux kernel did not verify an address length, which allowed local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel memory and bypass the KASLR protection mechanism via a crafted application (bnc#959190). - CVE-2015-8543: The networking implementation in the Linux kernel did not validate protocol identifiers for certain protocol families, which allowed local users to cause a denial of service (NULL function pointer dereference and system crash) or possibly gain privileges by leveraging CLONE_NEWUSER support to execute a crafted SOCK_RAW application (bnc#958886). - CVE-2015-8575: Validate socket address length in sco_sock_bind() to prevent information leak (bsc#959399). - CVE-2015-8551, CVE-2015-8552: xen/pciback: For XEN_PCI_OP_disable_msi[|x] only disable if device has MSI(X) enabled (bsc#957990). - CVE-2015-8550: Compiler optimizations in the XEN PV backend drivers could have lead to double fetch vulnerabilities, causing denial of service or arbitrary code execution (depending on the configuration) (bsc#957988). The following non-security bugs were fixed : - ALSA: hda - Add a fixup for Thinkpad X1 Carbon 2nd (bsc#958439). - ALSA: hda - Apply click noise workaround for Thinkpads generically (bsc#958439). - ALSA: hda - Fix noise problems on Thinkpad T440s (boo#958504). - ALSA: hda - Flush the pending probe work at remove (boo#960710). - ALSA: hda - Set codec to D3 at reboot/shutdown on Thinkpads (bsc#958439). - Add Cavium Thunderx network enhancements - Add RHEL to kernel-obs-build - Backport amd xgbe fixes and features - Backport arm64 patches from SLE12-SP1-ARM. - Btrfs: fix the number of transaction units needed to remove a block group (bsc#950178). - Btrfs: use global reserve when deleting unused block group after ENOSPC (bsc#950178). - Documentation: nousb is a module parameter (bnc#954324). - Driver for IBM System i/p VNIC protocol. - Enable CONFIG_PINCTRL_CHERRYVIEW (boo#954532) Needed for recent tablets/laptops. descriptionIt was discovered that a use-after-free vulnerability existed in the AF_UNIX implementation in the Linux kernel. A local attacker could use crafted epoll_ctl calls to cause a denial of service (system crash) or expose sensitive information. (CVE-2013-7446) It was discovered that the KVM implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly restore the values of the Programmable Interrupt Timer (PIT). A user-assisted attacker in a KVM guest could cause a denial of service in the host (system crash). (CVE-2015-7513) It was discovered that the Linux kernel keyring subsystem contained a race between read and revoke operations. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2015-7550) Sasha Levin discovered that the Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) implementation in the Linux kernel had a race condition when checking whether a socket was bound or not. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash). (CVE-2015-7990) It was discovered that the Btrfs implementation in the Linux kernel incorrectly handled compressed inline extants on truncation. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information. (CVE-2015-8374) Guoyong Gang discovered that the Linux kernel networking implementation did not validate protocol identifiers for certain protocol families, A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or possibly gain administrative privileges. (CVE-2015-8543) Dmitry Vyukov discovered that the pptp implementation in the Linux kernel did not verify an address length when setting up a socket. A local attacker could use this to craft an application that exposed sensitive information from kernel memory. (CVE-2015-8569) David Miller discovered that the Bluetooth implementation in the Linux kernel did not properly validate the socket address length for Synchronous Connection-Oriented (SCO) sockets. A local attacker could use this to expose sensitive information. (CVE-2015-8575) It was discovered that the netfilter Network Address Translation (NAT) implementation did not ensure that data structures were initialized when handling IPv4 addresses. descriptionAccording to the versions of the kernel packages installed, the EulerOS Virtualization for ARM 64 installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerabilities : - A memory corruption flaw was found in the way the USB ConnectTech WhiteHEAT serial driver processed completion commands sent via USB Request Blocks buffers. An attacker with physical access to the system could use this flaw to crash the system or, potentially, escalate their privileges on the system.(CVE-2014-3185i1/4%0 - Use-after-free vulnerability in the msm_set_crop function in drivers/media/video/msm/msm_camera.c in the MSM-Camera driver for the Linux kernel 3.x, as used in Qualcomm Innovation Center (QuIC) Android contributions for MSM devices and other products, allows attackers to gain privileges or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via an application that makes a crafted ioctl call.(CVE-2015-0568i1/4%0 - The vivid_fb_ioctl function in drivers/media/platform/vivid/vivid-osd.c in the Linux kernel through 4.3.3 does not initialize a certain structure member, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel memory via a crafted application.(CVE-2015-7884i1/4%0 - The usb_get_bos_descriptor function in drivers/usb/core/config.c in the Linux kernel can allow a local users to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and system crash) or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted USB device.(CVE-2017-16535i1/4%0 - The ACPI parsing functionality in the Linux kernel does not flush the node and node_ext caches which causes a kernel stack dump. This allows local users to obtain sensitive information from kernel memory and use this information to bypass the KASLR protection mechanism by creating and applying crafted ACPI table.(CVE-2017-13694i1/4%0 - The is_ashmem_file function in drivers/staging/android/ashmem.c in a certain Qualcomm Innovation Center (QuIC) Android patch for the Linux kernel 3.x mishandles pointer validation within the KGSL Linux Graphics Module, which allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions by using the /ashmem string as the dentry name.(CVE-2016-5340i1/4%0 - It was found that the Linux kernel did not properly account file descriptors passed over the unix socket against the process limit. A local user could use this flaw to exhaust all available memory on the system.(CVE-2013-4312i1/4%0 - Kernel memory corruption due to a buffer overflow was found in brcmf_cfg80211_mgmt_tx() function in Linux kernels from v3.9-rc1 to v4.13-rc1. The vulnerability can be triggered by sending a crafted NL80211_CMD_FRAME packet via netlink. This flaw is unlikely to be triggered remotely as certain userspace code is needed for this. An unprivileged local user could use this flaw to induce kernel memory corruption on the system, leading to a crash. Due to the nature of the flaw, privilege escalation cannot be fully ruled out, although it is unlikely.(CVE-2017-7541i1/4%0 - A flaw in the netback module allowed frontends to control mapping of requests to request queues. An attacker can change this mapping by requesting invalid mapping requests allowing the (usually privileged) backend to access out-of-bounds memory access for reading and writing.(CVE-2018-15471i1/4%0 - A buffer overflow vulnerability due to a lack of input filtering of incoming fragmented datagrams was found in the IP-over-1394 driver firewire-net in a fragment handling code in the Linux kernel. The vulnerability exists since firewire supported IPv4, i.e. since version 2.6.31 (year 2009) till version v4.9-rc4. A maliciously formed fragment with a respectively large datagram offset would cause a memcpy() past the datagram buffer, which would cause a system panic or possible arbitrary code execution. The flaw requires firewire-net module to be loaded and is remotely exploitable from connected firewire devices, but not over a local network.(CVE-2016-8633i1/4%0 - It was found that the Linux kernel can hit a BUG_ON() statement in the __xfs_get_blocks() in the fs/xfs/xfs_aops.c because of a race condition between direct and memory-mapped I/O associated with a hole in a file that is handled with BUG_ON() instead of an I/O failure. This allows a local unprivileged attacker to cause a system crash and a denial of service.(CVE-2016-10741i1/4%0 - A vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel. The pointer to the netlink socket attribute is not checked, which could cause a null pointer dereference when parsing the nested attributes in function tipc_nl_publ_dump(). This allows local users to cause a DoS.(CVE-2016-4951i1/4%0 - It was reported that with Linux kernel, earlier than version v4.10-rc8, an application may trigger a BUG_ON in sctp_wait_for_sndbuf if the socket tx buffer is full, a thread is waiting on it to queue more data, and meanwhile another thread peels off the association being used by the first thread.(CVE-2017-5986i1/4%0 - The kvm_vm_ioctl_check_extension function in arch/powerpc/kvm/powerpc.c in the Linux kernel before 4.13.11 allows local users to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) via a KVM_CHECK_EXTENSION KVM_CAP_PPC_HTM ioctl call to /dev/kvm.(CVE-2017-15306i1/4%0 - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel

descriptionSeveral vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel that may lead to a privilege escalation, denial of service or information leak. - CVE-2015-7513 It was discovered that a local user permitted to use the x86 KVM subsystem could configure the PIT emulation to cause a denial of service (crash). - CVE-2015-7550 Dmitry Vyukov discovered a race condition in the keyring subsystem that allows a local user to cause a denial of service (crash). - CVE-2015-8543 It was discovered that a local user permitted to create raw sockets could cause a denial-of-service by specifying an invalid protocol number for the socket. The attacker must have the CAP_NET_RAW capability. - CVE-2015-8550 Felix Wilhelm of ERNW discovered that the Xen PV backend drivers may read critical data from shared memory multiple times. This flaw can be used by a guest kernel to cause a denial of service (crash) on the host, or possibly for privilege escalation. - CVE-2015-8551 / CVE-2015-8552 Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk of Oracle discovered that the Xen PCI backend driver does not adequately validate the device state when a guest configures MSIs. This flaw can be used by a guest kernel to cause a denial of service (crash or disk space exhaustion) on the host. - CVE-2015-8569 Dmitry Vyukov discovered a flaw in the PPTP sockets implementation that leads to an information leak to local users. - CVE-2015-8575 David Miller discovered a flaw in the Bluetooth SCO sockets implementation that leads to an information leak to local users. - CVE-2015-8709 Jann Horn discovered a flaw in the permission checks for use of the ptrace feature. A local user who has the CAP_SYS_PTRACE capability within their own user namespace could use this flaw for privilege escalation if a more privileged process ever enters that user namespace. This affects at least the LXC system. In addition, this update fixes some regressions in the previous update : - #808293 A regression in the UDP implementation prevented freeradius and some other applications from receiving data. - #808602 / #808953 A regression in the USB XHCI driver prevented use of some devices in USB 3 SuperSpeed ports. - #808973 A fix to the radeon driver interacted with an existing bug to cause a crash at boot when using some AMD/ATI graphics cards. This issue only affects wheezy.
