Summary

The Linux kernel through 3.14.5 does not properly consider the presence of hugetlb entries, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (memory corruption or system crash) by accessing certain memory locations, as demonstrated by triggering a race condition via numa_maps read operations during hugepage migration, related to fs/proc/task_mmu.c and mm/mempolicy.c.

Common Attack Pattern Enumeration and Classification (CAPEC)

  • Leveraging Race Conditions
This attack targets a race condition occurring when multiple processes access and manipulate the same resource concurrently and the outcome of the execution depends on the particular order in which the access takes place. The attacker can leverage a race condition by "running the race", modifying the resource and modifying the normal execution flow. For instance a race condition can occur while accessing a file, the attacker can trick the system by replacing the original file with his version and cause the system to read the malicious file.
  • Leveraging Time-of-Check and Time-of-Use (TOCTOU) Race Conditions
This attack targets a race condition occurring between the time of check (state) for a resource and the time of use of a resource. The typical example is the file access. The attacker can leverage a file access race condition by "running the race", meaning that he would modify the resource between the first time the target program accesses the file and the time the target program uses the file. During that period of time, the attacker could do something such as replace the file and cause an escalation of privilege.

"* A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's XFS file system
handled replacing of remote attributes under certain conditions. A
local user with access to XFS file system mount could potentially use
this flaw to escalate their privileges on the system. (CVE-2015-0274,
    Important)

    * It was found that the Linux kernel's KVM implementation did not
ensure that the host CR4 control register value remained unchanged
across VM entries on the same virtual CPU. A local, unprivileged user
could use this flaw to cause denial of service on the system.
    (CVE-2014-3690, Moderate)

    * A flaw was found in the way Linux kernel's Transparent Huge Pages
(THP) implementation handled non-huge page migration. A local,
unprivileged user could use this flaw to crash the kernel by migrating
    transparent hugepages. (CVE-2014-3940, Moderate)

    * An out-of-bounds memory access flaw was found in the syscall tracing
functionality of the Linux kernel's perf subsystem. A local,
unprivileged user could use this flaw to crash the system.
    (CVE-2014-7825, Moderate)

    * An out-of-bounds memory access flaw was found in the syscall tracing
functionality of the Linux kernel's ftrace subsystem. On a system with
ftrace syscall tracing enabled, a local, unprivileged user could use
this flaw to crash the system, or escalate their privileges.
    (CVE-2014-7826, Moderate)

    * A race condition flaw was found in the Linux kernel's ext4 file
system implementation that allowed a local, unprivileged user to crash
the system by simultaneously writing to a file and toggling the
O_DIRECT flag using fcntl(F_SETFL) on that file. (CVE-2014-8086,
    Moderate)

    * A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's netfilter subsystem
handled generic protocol tracking. As demonstrated in the Stream
Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) case, a remote attacker could use
this flaw to bypass intended iptables rule restrictions when the
associated connection tracking module was not loaded on the system.
    (CVE-2014-8160, Moderate)

    * It was found that due to excessive files_lock locking, a soft lockup
could be triggered in the Linux kernel when performing asynchronous
I/O operations. A local, unprivileged user could use this flaw to
    crash the system. (CVE-2014-8172, Moderate)

    * A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found in the way the Linux
kernel's madvise MADV_WILLNEED functionality handled page table
locking. A local, unprivileged user could use this flaw to crash the
    system. (CVE-2014-8173, Moderate)

    * An information leak flaw was found in the Linux kernel's IEEE 802.11
wireless networking implementation. When software encryption was used,
a remote attacker could use this flaw to leak up to 8 bytes of
    plaintext. (CVE-2014-8709, Low)

    * A stack-based buffer overflow flaw was found in the
TechnoTrend/Hauppauge DEC USB device driver. A local user with write
access to the corresponding device could use this flaw to crash the
kernel or, potentially, elevate their privileges on the system.
    (CVE-2014-8884, Low)

    * Users of kernel modules may need to upgrade the module to maintain
    compatibility.

The system must be rebooted for this update to take effect."

protocol (PPP) when used with the Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP).
A local user could exploit this flaw to gain administrative
    privileges. (CVE-2014-4943)

Salva Peiro discovered an information leak in the Linux kernel's
media- device driver. A local attacker could exploit this flaw to
obtain sensitive information from kernel memory. (CVE-2014-1739)

A bounds check error was discovered in the socket filter subsystem of
the Linux kernel. A local user could exploit this flaw to cause a
denial of service (system crash) via crafted BPF instructions.
    (CVE-2014-3144)

A remainder calculation error was discovered in the socket filter
subsystem of the Linux kernel. A local user could exploit this flaw to
cause a denial of service (system crash) via crafted BPF instructions.
    (CVE-2014-3145)

A flaw was discovered in the Linux kernel's handling of hugetlb
entries. A local user could exploit this flaw to cause a denial
service (memory corruption or system crash). (CVE-2014-3940)

Don Bailey discovered a flaw in the LZO decompress algorithm used by
the Linux kernel. An attacker could exploit this flaw to cause a
denial of service (memory corruption or OOPS). (CVE-2014-4608)

Don Bailey and Ludvig Strigeus discovered an integer overflow in the
Linux kernel's implementation of the LZ4 decompression algorithm, when
used by code not complying with API limitations. An attacker could
exploit this flaw to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) or
    possibly other unspecified impact. (CVE-2014-4611).

as part of the ongoing support and maintenance of Red Hat Enterprise
Linux version 7. This is the first regular update.

Red Hat Product Security has rated this update as having Important
security impact. Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) base
scores, which give detailed severity ratings, are available for each
vulnerability from the CVE links in the References section.

The kernel packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux
    operating system.

    * A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's XFS file system
handled replacing of remote attributes under certain conditions. A
local user with access to XFS file system mount could potentially use
this flaw to escalate their privileges on the system.

Red Hat would like to thank Eric Windisch of the Docker project for
reporting CVE-2015-0274, Andy Lutomirski for reporting CVE-2014-3690,
and Robert Swiecki for reporting CVE-2014-7825 and CVE-2014-7826.

This update also fixes several hundred bugs and adds numerous
enhancements. Refer to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 Release Notes
for information on the most significant of these changes, and the
following Knowledgebase article for further information:

"Updated kernel-rt packages that fix multiple security issues are now
available for Red Hat Enterprise MRG 2.5.

The Red Hat Security Response Team has rated this update as having
Important security impact. Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS)
base scores, which give detailed severity ratings, are available for
each vulnerability from the CVE links in the References section.

The kernel-rt packages contain the Linux kernel, the core of any Linux
    operating system.

      * A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's futex
subsystem handled the requeuing of certain Priority
Inheritance (PI) futexes. A local, unprivileged user
could use this flaw to escalate their privileges on the
        system. (CVE-2014-3153, Important)

      * It was found that the Linux kernel's ptrace subsystem
allowed a traced process' instruction pointer to be set
to a non-canonical memory address without forcing the
non-sysret code path when returning to user space. A
local, unprivileged user could use this flaw to crash
the system or, potentially, escalate their privileges
on the system. Note that this issue only affected
systems using an Intel CPU. (CVE-2014-4699, Important)

      * It was found that the permission checks performed by the
Linux kernel when a netlink message was received were
not sufficient. A local, unprivileged user could
potentially bypass these restrictions by passing a
netlink socket as stdout or stderr to a more privileged
process and altering the output of this process.
        (CVE-2014-0181, Moderate)

      * It was found that the aio_read_events_ring() function
of the Linux kernel's Asynchronous I/O (AIO) subsystem
did not properly sanitize the AIO ring head received
from user space. A local, unprivileged user could use
this flaw to disclose random parts of the (physical)
memory belonging to the kernel and/or other processes.
        (CVE-2014-0206, Moderate)

      * An out-of-bounds memory access flaw was found in the
Netlink Attribute extension of the Berkeley Packet
Filter (BPF) interpreter functionality in the Linux
        kernel's networking implementation. A local,
unprivileged user could use this flaw to crash the
system or leak kernel memory to user space via a
        specially crafted socket filter. (CVE-2014-3144,
        CVE-2014-3145, Moderate)

      * An out-of-bounds memory access flaw was found in the
Linux kernel's system call auditing implementation. On
a system with existing audit rules defined, a local,
unprivileged user could use this flaw to leak kernel
memory to user space or, potentially, crash the system.
        (CVE-2014-3917, Moderate)

      * A flaw was found in the way Linux kernel's Transparent
Huge Pages (THP) implementation handled non-huge page
migration. A local, unprivileged user could use this
flaw to crash the kernel by migrating transparent
        hugepages. (CVE-2014-3940, Moderate)

      * An integer underflow flaw was found in the way the Linux
kernel's Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP)
        implementation processed certain COOKIE_ECHO packets.
By sending a specially crafted SCTP packet, a remote
attacker could use this flaw to prevent legitimate
connections to a particular SCTP server socket to be
        made. (CVE-2014-4667, Moderate)

      * An information leak flaw was found in the RAM Disks
Memory Copy (rd_mcp) back-end driver of the iSCSI Target
subsystem of the Linux kernel. A privileged user could
use this flaw to leak the contents of kernel memory to
an iSCSI initiator remote client. (CVE-2014-4027, Low)

Users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages, which upgrade
the kernel-rt kernel to version kernel-rt-3.10.33-rt32.43 and correct
these issues. The system must be rebooted for this update to take
    effect.");

"* A flaw was found in the way Linux kernel's Transparent Huge Pages
(THP) implementation handled non-huge page migration. A local,
unprivileged user could use this flaw to crash the kernel by migrating
    transparent hugepages. (CVE-2014-3940, Moderate)

    * A buffer overflow flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's
eCryptfs implementation decoded encrypted file names. A local,
unprivileged user could use this flaw to crash the system or,
potentially, escalate their privileges on the system. (CVE-2014-9683,
    Moderate)

    * A race condition flaw was found between the chown and execve system
calls. When changing the owner of a setuid user binary to root, the
race condition could momentarily make the binary setuid root. A local,
unprivileged user could potentially use this flaw to escalate their
privileges on the system. (CVE-2015-3339, Moderate)

    * Multiple out-of-bounds write flaws were found in the way the Cherry
Cymotion keyboard driver, KYE/Genius device drivers, Logitech device
drivers, Monterey Genius KB29E keyboard driver, Petalynx Maxter remote
control driver, and Sunplus wireless desktop driver handled HID
reports with an invalid report descriptor size. An attacker with
physical access to the system could use either of these flaws to write
data past an allocated memory buffer. (CVE-2014-3184, Low)

    * An information leak flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) implementation handled access
of the user control's state. A local, privileged user could use this
flaw to leak kernel memory to user space. (CVE-2014-4652, Low)

    * It was found that the espfix functionality could be bypassed by
installing a 16-bit RW data segment into GDT instead of LDT (which
espfix checks), and using that segment on the stack. A local,
unprivileged user could potentially use this flaw to leak kernel stack
    addresses. (CVE-2014-8133, Low)

    * An information leak flaw was found in the Linux kernel's IEEE 802.11
wireless networking implementation. When software encryption was used,
a remote attacker could use this flaw to leak up to 8 bytes of
    plaintext. (CVE-2014-8709, Low)

    * It was found that the Linux kernel KVM subsystem's sysenter
instruction emulation was not sufficient. An unprivileged guest user
could use this flaw to escalate their privileges by tricking the
hypervisor to emulate a SYSENTER instruction in 16-bit mode, if the
guest OS did not initialize the SYSENTER model-specific registers
(MSRs). Note: Certified guest operating systems for Scientific Linux
with KVM do initialize the SYSENTER MSRs and are thus not vulnerable
to this issue when running on a KVM hypervisor. (CVE-2015-0239, Low)

protocol (PPP) when used with the Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP).

Red Hat would like to thank Eric Windisch of the Docker project for
reporting CVE-2015-0274, Andy Lutomirski for reporting CVE-2014-3690,
and Robert Święcki for reporting CVE-2014-7825 and CVE-2014-7826.

This update also fixes several hundred bugs and adds numerous
enhancements. Refer to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 Release Notes
for information on the most significant of these changes, and the
following Knowledgebase article for further information:
    https://access.redhat.com/articles/1352803

All Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 users are advised to install these
updated packages, which correct these issues and add these
enhancements. The system must be rebooted for this update to take
    effect."

"According to the versions of the kernel packages installed, the
EulerOS Virtualization installation on the remote host is affected by
    the following vulnerabilities :

      - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's futex
subsystem handled the requeuing of certain Priority
Inheritance (PI) futexes. A local, unprivileged user
could use this flaw to escalate their privileges on the
        system.(CVE-2014-3153)

      - An out-of-bounds write flaw was found in the way the
Apple Magic Mouse/Trackpad multi-touch driver handled
Human Interface Device (HID) reports with an invalid
size. An attacker with physical access to the system
could use this flaw to crash the system or,
potentially, escalate their privileges on the
        system.(CVE-2014-3181)

      - An out-of-bounds read flaw was found in the way the
Logitech Unifying receiver driver handled HID reports
with an invalid device_index value. An attacker with
physical access to the system could use this flaw to
crash the system or, potentially, escalate their
        privileges on the system.(CVE-2014-3182)

      - Multiple out-of-bounds write flaws were found in the
way the Cherry Cymotion keyboard driver, KYE/Genius
device drivers, Logitech device drivers, Monterey
Genius KB29E keyboard driver, Petalynx Maxter remote
control driver, and Sunplus wireless desktop driver
handled HID reports with an invalid report descriptor
size. An attacker with physical access to the system
could use either of these flaws to write data past an
        allocated memory buffer.(CVE-2014-3184)

      - A memory corruption flaw was found in the way the USB
        ConnectTech WhiteHEAT serial driver processed
completion commands sent via USB Request Blocks
buffers. An attacker with physical access to the system
could use this flaw to crash the system or,
potentially, escalate their privileges on the
        system.(CVE-2014-3185)

      - It was found that Linux kernel's ptrace subsystem did
not properly sanitize the address-space-control bits
when the program-status word (PSW) was being set. On
IBM S/390 systems, a local, unprivileged user could use
this flaw to set address-space-control bits to the
kernel space, and thus gain read and write access to
        kernel memory.(CVE-2014-3534)

      - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's
        kvm_iommu_map_pages() function handled IOMMU mapping
failures. A privileged user in a guest with an assigned
host device could use this flaw to crash the
        host.(CVE-2014-3601)

      - It was found that KVM's Write to Model Specific
Register (WRMSR) instruction emulation would write
non-canonical values passed in by the guest to certain
MSRs in the host's context. A privileged guest user
could use this flaw to crash the host.(CVE-2014-3610)

      - A race condition flaw was found in the way the Linux
kernel's KVM subsystem handled PIT (Programmable
Interval Timer) emulation. A guest user who has access
to the PIT I/O ports could use this flaw to crash the
        host.(CVE-2014-3611)

      - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's keys
subsystem handled the termination condition in the
associative array garbage collection functionality. A
local, unprivileged user could use this flaw to crash
        the system.(CVE-2014-3631)

      - It was found that the Linux kernel's KVM subsystem did
not handle the VM exits gracefully for the invept
        (Invalidate Translations Derived from EPT)
instructions. On hosts with an Intel processor and
invept VM exit support, an unprivileged guest user
could use these instructions to crash the
        guest.(CVE-2014-3645)

      - It was found that the Linux kernel's KVM subsystem did
not handle the VM exits gracefully for the invvpid
(Invalidate Translations Based on VPID) instructions.
On hosts with an Intel processor and invppid VM exit
support, an unprivileged guest user could use these
        instructions to crash the guest.(CVE-2014-3646)

      - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's KVM
        subsystem handled non-canonical addresses when
emulating instructions that change the RIP (for
example, branches or calls). A guest user with access
to an I/O or MMIO region could use this flaw to crash
        the guest.(CVE-2014-3647)

      - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's Stream
        Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) implementation
handled malformed Address Configuration Change Chunks
(ASCONF). A remote attacker could use either of these
        flaws to crash the system.(CVE-2014-3673)

      - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's Stream
        Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) implementation
handled duplicate Address Configuration Change Chunks
(ASCONF). A remote attacker could use either of these
        flaws to crash the system.(CVE-2014-3687)

      - A flaw was found in the way the Linux kernel's Stream
        Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) implementation
handled the association's output queue. A remote
attacker could send specially crafted packets that
would cause the system to use an excessive amount of
memory, leading to a denial of service.(CVE-2014-3688)

      - It was found that the Linux kernel's KVM implementation
did not ensure that the host CR4 control register value
remained unchanged across VM entries on the same
virtual CPU. A local, unprivileged user could use this
flaw to cause a denial of service on the
        system.(CVE-2014-3690)

      - An out-of-bounds memory access flaw was found in the
Linux kernel's system call auditing implementation. On
a system with existing audit rules defined, a local,
unprivileged user could use this flaw to leak kernel
memory to user space or, potentially, crash the
        system.(CVE-2014-3917)

      - A flaw was found in the way Linux kernel's Transparent
Huge Pages (THP) implementation handled non-huge page
migration. A local, unprivileged user could use this
flaw to crash the kernel by migrating transparent
        hugepages.(CVE-2014-3940)

      - The capabilities implementation in the Linux kernel
before 3.14.8 does not properly consider that
namespaces are inapplicable to inodes, which allows
local users to bypass intended chmod restrictions by
first creating a user namespace, as demonstrated by
setting the setgid bit on a file with group ownership
        of root.(CVE-2014-4014)

      - An information leak flaw was found in the RAM Disks
Memory Copy (rd_mcp) backend driver of the iSCSI Target
subsystem of the Linux kernel. A privileged user could
use this flaw to leak the contents of kernel memory to
        an iSCSI initiator remote client.(CVE-2014-4027)

"According to the versions of the kernel packages installed, the
EulerOS Virtualization for ARM 64 installation on the remote host is
affected by the following vulnerabilities :

      - It was found that the parse_rock_ridge_inode_internal()
function of the Linux kernel's ISOFS implementation did
not correctly check relocated directories when
processing Rock Ridge child link (CL) tags. An attacker
with physical access to the system could use a
specially crafted ISO image to crash the system or,
potentially, escalate their privileges on the
        system.(CVE-2014-5472i1/4%0

      - An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel's F2FS
filesystem code. An out-of-bounds access vulnerability
is possible the in __remove_dirty_segment() in
        fs/f2fs/segment.c function when mounting a crafted f2fs
        image.(CVE-2018-14614i1/4%0

      - Race condition in kernel/events/core.c in the Linux
kernel before 4.4 allows local users to gain privileges
or cause a denial of service via use-after-free
vulnerability by leveraging incorrect handling of an
swevent data structure during a CPU unplug
        operation.(CVE-2015-8963i1/4%0

      - The skbs processed by ip_cmsg_recv() are not guaranteed
to be linear (e.g. when sending UDP packets over
loopback with MSGMORE). Using csum_partial() on
potentially the whole skb len is dangerous instead be
on the safe side and use skb_checksum(). This may lead
to an infoleak as the kernel memory may be checksummed
and sent as part of the packet.(CVE-2017-6347i1/4%0

      - The apic_get_tmcct function in arch/x86/kvm/lapic.c in
the KVM subsystem in the Linux kernel through 3.12.5
allows guest OS users to cause a denial of service
(divide-by-zero error and host OS crash) via crafted
        modifications of the TMICT value.(CVE-2013-6367i1/4%0

      - A use-after-free issue was found in the way the Linux
kernel's KVM hypervisor processed posted interrupts
when nested(=1) virtualization is enabled. In
nested_get_vmcs12_pages(), in case of an error while
processing posted interrupt address, it unmaps the
        'pi_desc_page' without resetting 'pi_desc' descriptor
address, which is later used in pi_test_and_clear_on().
A guest user/process could use this flaw to crash the
host kernel resulting in DoS or potentially gain
        privileged access to a system.(CVE-2018-16882i1/4%0

      - It was discovered that the atl2_probe() function in the
Atheros L2 Ethernet driver in the Linux kernel
        incorrectly enabled scatter/gather I/O. A remote
attacker could use this flaw to obtain potentially
        sensitive information from the kernel
        memory.(CVE-2016-2117i1/4%0

      - A flaw was found in the way the nft_flush_table()
function of the Linux kernel's netfilter tables
implementation flushed rules that were referencing
deleted chains. A local user who has the CAP_NET_ADMIN
capability could use this flaw to crash the
        system.(CVE-2015-1573i1/4%0

      - The powermate_probe function in
        drivers/input/misc/powermate.c in the Linux kernel
before 4.5.1 allows physically proximate attackers to
cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference and
system crash) via a crafted endpoints value in a USB
        device descriptor.(CVE-2016-2186i1/4%0

      - It was found that KVM's Write to Model Specific
Register (WRMSR) instruction emulation would write
non-canonical values passed in by the guest to certain
MSRs in the host's context. A privileged guest user
could use this flaw to crash the host.(CVE-2014-3610i1/4%0

      - The BPF_S_ANC_NLATTR_NEST extension implementation in
the sk_run_filter function in net/core/filter.c in the
Linux kernel through 3.14.3 uses the reverse order in a
certain subtraction, which allows local users to cause
a denial of service (over-read and system crash) via
crafted BPF instructions. NOTE: the affected code was
moved to the __skb_get_nlattr_nest function before the
        vulnerability was announced.(CVE-2014-3145i1/4%0

      - The yam_ioctl function in drivers/net/hamradio/yam.c in
the Linux kernel before 3.12.8 does not initialize a
certain structure member, which allows local users to
obtain sensitive information from kernel memory by
leveraging the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability for an
        SIOCYAMGCFG ioctl call.(CVE-2014-1446i1/4%0

      - A race condition flaw was found in the N_HLDC Linux
kernel driver when accessing n_hdlc.tbuf list that can
lead to double free. A local, unprivileged user able to
set the HDLC line discipline on the tty device could
use this flaw to increase their privileges on the
        system.(CVE-2017-2636i1/4%0

      - A flaw was found in the way Linux kernel's Transparent
Huge Pages (THP) implementation handled non-huge page
migration. A local, unprivileged user could use this
flaw to crash the kernel by migrating transparent
        hugepages.(CVE-2014-3940i1/4%0

      - A security flaw was found in the
chap_server_compute_md5() function in the ISCSI target
code in the Linux kernel in a way an authentication
request from an ISCSI initiator is processed. An
unauthenticated remote attacker can cause a stack
buffer overflow and smash up to 17 bytes of the stack.
The attack requires the iSCSI target to be enabled on
the victim host. Depending on how the target's code was
built (i.e. depending on a compiler, compile flags and
hardware architecture) an attack may lead to a system
crash and thus to a denial of service or possibly to a
non-authorized access to data exported by an iSCSI
target. Due to the nature of the flaw, privilege
escalation cannot be fully ruled out, although we
        believe it is highly unlikely.(CVE-2018-14633i1/4%0

      - A vulnerability was found in the Linux kernel where
filesystems mounted with data=ordered mode may allow an
attacker to read stale data from recently allocated
blocks in new files after a system 'reset' by abusing
        ext4 mechanics of delayed allocation.(CVE-2017-7495i1/4%0

      - drivers/media/platform/msm/broadcast/tsc.c in the TSC
driver for the Linux kernel 3.x, as used in Qualcomm
Innovation Center (QuIC) Android contributions for MSM
devices and other products, allows attackers to cause a
denial of service (invalid pointer dereference) or
possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted
application that makes a TSC_GET_CARD_STATUS ioctl
        call.(CVE-2015-0573i1/4%0

      - It was found that the unlink and rename functionality
in overlayfs did not verify the upper dentry for
staleness. A local, unprivileged user could use the
rename syscall on overlayfs on top of xfs to panic or
        crash the system.(CVE-2016-6197i1/4%0

      - In net/socket.c in the Linux kernel through 4.17.1,
there is a race condition between fchownat and close in
cases where they target the same socket file
descriptor, related to the sock_close and
sockfs_setattr functions. fchownat does not increment
the file descriptor reference count, which allows close
to set the socket to NULL during fchownat's execution,
leading to a NULL pointer dereference and system
        crash.(CVE-2018-12232i1/4%0

      - The ath9k_htc_set_bssid_mask function in
        drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/htc_drv_main.c in the
Linux kernel through 3.12 uses a BSSID masking approach
to determine the set of MAC addresses on which a Wi-Fi
device is listening, which allows remote attackers to
discover the original MAC address after spoofing by
sending a series of packets to MAC addresses with
        certain bit manipulations.(CVE-2013-4579i1/4%0
