Cryptojackers spread their nets to capture more than just EC2

One newly spotted method targets services on the AWS platform, but not necessarily the ones you might think. Researchers from the Sysdig Threat Research Team have uncovered a cryptojacking operation dubbed "AMBERSQUID," which does not directly target EC2 instances that would trigger an approval for more resources.

Amazon Web Services announced the general availability of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud P4d instances, the next generation of GPU-powered instances delivering 3x faster performance, up to 60% lower cost, and 2.5x more GPU memory for machine learning training and high-performance computing workloads when compared to previous generation P3 instances. Using P4d instances with AWS's Elastic Fabric Adapter and NVIDIA GPUDirect RDMA, customers are able to create P4d instances with EC2 UltraClusters capability.

ScaleMP announced it is expanding its memory expansion product portfolio to offer vSMP MemoryONE software for a wide range of AWS EC2 instances with NVMe SSDs. Available via AWS Marketplace, vSMP MemoryONE enables customers to easily expand instance memory to higher capacities and at a much lower cost. Bare-metal instances are supported by vSMP MemoryONE v9.

Amazon Web Services, an Amazon.com company, announced the general availability of its sixth generation of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud instances with three new instances powered by AWS-designed, Arm-based Graviton2 processors. The M6g, C6g, and R6g instances are powered by new AWS-designed, Arm-based AWS Graviton2 processors that offer up to 7x more performance, 4x more compute cores, and 5x faster memory than the A1 instances-while also delivering up to 40% better price/performance over comparable current generation x86-based instances.
