'Tetrade' Brazilian Banking Trojans Go International

The Brazilian cybercriminals behind four banking Trojans collectively dubbed "Tetrade" have decided to expand their business and started targeting victims internationally, Kaspersky's security researchers reveal. The four banking Trojan families - Guildma, Javali, Melcoz and Grandoreiro - have been active for years, but started emerging in attacks in North America, Europe, and Latin America only last year.

Researchers at cybersecurity company Check Point said on Thursday that they have found the real identity of VandaTheGod, a Brazilian hacker involved in both hacktivist operations and financially-motivated cybercrimes. Check Point told SecurityWeek that it informed law enforcement about its findings in October 2019, but the hacker continued to be active up until May 2020.

Brazilian prosecutors on Tuesday accused U.S. journalist Glenn Greenwald of involvement in hacking the phones of officials involved in a corruption investigation, but said court rulings protecting free speech prevent them from bringing charges.
